Up in the air. I know H&K is trying to win a bid for its new gun, but I dont think the military has finalized anything.

national guard probably are carring m16a2 or maybe m4a1...not very futuristic looking. Perhaps if a person has never seen such guns before...

I just cant see that gun going anywhere. The 5.56 barrel is too short for the military's required accuracy (500 yards with iron sights I believe, may be 3), the gun overall is too unweildy and bulky (based on looks anyways), the ammo would end up weighing a feaking ton on the 20mm, the scope is impractical for CQC...etc etc.... It looks ok for a suport role, but front line? Screw that thing, gimme the good ole M series guns.

You wanna see a SWEET lookin gun? Look up an MP7. I freakin want one of those. Calico's are cool too, they were essentially a civilian P-90.

Not a big gun whore, so I don't know its effectiveness IRL... but I do know that gun is BADASS in Ghost Recon. 1-2 shots they are dead, a semi-automatic grenade launcher, and a pretty good zoom. I <3 OICW!

It's not meant to replace the M-16, it's more likey meant to replace the the M-16 and M-203 grenade launcher.

Which raises the question, when you need a bit of extra bang do you want 20mm or 40mm? Granted, you get 6 of one and 1 of the other......
I guess we'll find out soon enough when they make the decision. Personally, I'd keep the M203 and just drop the 40mm off the bottom and make the 20mm fit to that.....

Calico

I think they made a few others, one which looked close to a P90 if memory serves. Granted, it was a different caliber. You had a .22LR or 9mm to choose from, but 100 rounds was a nice feature :D

The cool thing with this gun is that is has a range finder and the 20mm ammo can be programmed to explode at a certain distance.
Cool, you can make the ammo explode 6 ft inside a house 300ft away.

I think it depends on the situation. The OICW 20mm can reach places where the M203 can't, plus it's semiautomatic, you can empty the 5-round magazine in a hurry into a group of baddies, while the M203 is reloading. The OICW is too expensive to be widely use though, at least $100K/piece

Eh, I can see it both ways. Personally though, I like that 40mm.
If you want the 40mm on the futuristic gun...
Fn-2000 (Under smalls arms -> Assault rifles) Plus it has a longer barrel, which makes it FAR more preferable in my opinion.

The 20mm shells have a 6 round magazine! ;)
