My Budget is to spend around $1000 to upgrade my 5 year old Q6600 Geforce 8800 Ultra rig. I am planning on trying to nab a GTX 670 tomorrow but I wanted to know if I chose good components for my build. Also do you think the price on the i7-2600k will drop soon considering the release of Ivy Bridge procs? Where would you go to buy these components as I live in Canada and local stores are a rip off, should I look at Newegg, Tigerdirect is it possible to get a deal by bundling all these components in one order?

Components I am considering purchasing:
GTX 670
i7-2600K
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4
Scythe Mugen 3 Air Cooler
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
Samsung SSD 830 128GB

Old Components:
Mozart Tx Case
Ultra X3 1000W
2 320GB Seagate Barracuda

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. PC Games

2. What YOUR budget is. $1000

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. Canada

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. Intel and Nvidia

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are. Ultra X3 1000W, Mozart Tx case, 2 Seagate barracuda 320gb

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. I plan on OCing the system.

8. What resolution will you be using? Full HD

9. WHEN do you plan to build it? Within this month

Intel CPUs don't usually tend to drop in price very much when their new line comes out. If you're hoping to get a killer deal, you're probably better off looking for a used processor from someone else who's upgrading.

All of that said, if you're planning to overclock anyway, you may as well just get the 2500K unless the price difference is negligible.

Components I am considering purchasing:

GTX 670 Good.
i7-2600K Hyperthreading not useful for gaming because games aren't heavily multithreaded. 2500K would perform the same and it's also a good choice over 3570K as it's cheaper and OC's better.
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 A bit expensive. Since you're going with a Sandy Bridge, you could just get a Z68 board, they're comparably affordable now. E.g. Asus P8Z68-V Pro $175 AR. Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H $165 is a decent Z77 board with SLI support. If you don't need SLI, get Asrock Z77 Pro3 $95 AR.
Scythe Mugen 3 Air Cooler Good.
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) I would make sure the RAM is fully low profile. Mugen 3 fan hangs very low. Here. (The difference between 1600 and 1333 is negligible)
Samsung SSD 830 128GB Crucial M4 128GB is massively better value at the moment. Same performance and reliability.
Above changes and I approve. The fact that you'll save some cash will allow you to upgrade sooner or upgrade something else in your PC if needed. I would look into selling the PSU as well and buying a decent unit that's the right wattage (650W-750W for 670 SLI, 500W for 670 single).

This seems like a really good deal,

$100
Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5IN SATA3 SandForce SF-2281 SSD Solid State Disk Flash Drive

For the Asrock 4Extreme, It was selling a few days ago for $130 and now $150, better priced than the boards you quoted...

In terms of Ram, there seems to be too many options, is there a big difference between say 1300 and 1866,

This seems to be a good deal

I am considering going with the 3570K because it seems to be at a similar price point to the 2500k and can be over clocked with a proper cooler

Specs: GIGABYTE GTX 670 OC (Already Purchased)
Intel i7-3570K Ivy Bridge
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 (Where is the cheapest place to buy?)
Scythe Mugen Air Cooler
Mushkin Stiletto 8GB 2X4GB
Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5IN SATA3

NCIX has the Extreme4 for $140 AR, which seems to be the best price after a quick search. Rest of the parts look good to me assuming that the RAM is the $35 DDR3 1333 version.

Not bad at all for Canadian prices. But M4 is only $20 more, definitely worth it for avoiding SandForce.

The performance difference is negligible, you won't notice it outside of benchmarking (and even then you may not notice it).

That's 1.65V, SB and IB take 1.5V. The Mushkin Silverline kit I linked for $35AR is your best bet 🙂

Thanks for all your help! I have ordered all components and am excited to test out this new build!
