isn't it kind of odd that these numbers - the figures were announced Thursday, so in a way it's "yesterday's news" - are not in this morning's news ?!

not on the Drudge Report, not on Yahoo Top News Stories ... etc.

as of lunch-time, not a peep about it on Yahoo Finance.

no mention on the NY Times front page - no mention on the NY Times busines page, as of lunch-time.

i would say, 600K people getting laid off each of the last 3 weeks qualifies as Major News.

and i wouldn't have heard about it if there were a few more good surfing articles at Surfline when i was drinking coffee this morning.

to me, it seems odd that surf writers taking a day off leads to me finding out about this certifiably major piece of news.

i mean, when you have to go to the World Socialist Web Site to get the major real news of the day ... what is going on ?

i dare say this story may have been suppressed.

You are a week behind that news was all around Friday LAST week. Notice the Feb 6 on your link in your original post. And, it was reported everywhere. See CNN. Or see NY Times I didn't bother checknig Drudge Report and Yahoo and the rest you mentioned, but I bet if you looked LAST week you'd see it too. Of course it isn't on the main pages now since you are a week behind.

And, no we didn't hear from you first. It was already on Anandtech forums.

That's supposed to tell me what? Fact of the matter is, $800billion is far short of what's needed. Start getting ready for $2trillion before the end of the year and that's just Stimulus, not potential Bailout spending.

No one is expecting all this to not have consequences, but to do nothing has far worse consequences.

i was going to say, "Phew !! i just missed it, which means Yahoo/ Associated Press and Yahoo/Finance missed it".

but, the articles you linked to are for 600K jobs per month. that unfortunate trend has been going on in December 2008 and January 2009.

so, one of the reasons i'm asking the Anandtech Brain Trust about it is, i don't entirely trust the World Socialist Web Site.

the articles you cited mention job losses at the rate of 600K per month - not, per week. there's a pretty significant difference.

is the economy really contracting at the rate of 2.4 million job losses per month ?

That was 600k jobs lost, not 600k new unemployment claims. That month was last month, which includes two of the weeks in your list. I'm not entirely sure why there would be such a large disparity between jobs lost and new unemployment claims.
