It's better than I was expecting. Then again, I found their recent work a bit overrated.

dmb isn't generic at all

Sadly, if the rest of the album is like 'get your boots' then we are screwed.

The only good thing is that every bad album is followed by a really good one.

Get Your Boots is absolutely terrible and probably the worst track on the album by far (if not one of the worst U2 songs ever released). When I heard this song I thought for sure that this album was doomed to failure.

However, I've since listened to the entire album, and overall I think it's pretty good. There are tracks I like, tracks I really like, and of course a handful that I don't care for. This isn't the "Joshua Tree" of the 2000s a lot of people are trying to make it out to be, but it's a decent album, and probably better than the previous two.

Am I one of the only U2 fans on the planet that actually likes Pop (a lot)?

Definately. Get Your Boots is my least favourite of the entire album, and probably the worst track on it. No idea why they used that as the first single when there are so many other single-worthy songs. I only got it Wednesday, one day after release, because they didn't have the Deluxe/Magazine versions at any local stores (production problem in Canada). The online stores estimate a ship date of 2-4 weeks, so screw that. I just decided to pick up the regular CD and save myself $30+.

So far, I've listened to it 1.5 times, and am liking a lot of it. Unlike 'How to dismantle', I haven't found a slow/bland section on the track list. Aside from Boots, most of it is pretty damn good. The Letterman thing is awesome too; I'm cutting my sleep down to 6 hours this week just to stay up for it (don't use VCR, don't have DVD-R, no Tivo, no likey online stream).

Nope, you are not the only person who likes Pop. If anything, I have gotten tired of Joshua Tree and their pre-'90s stuff. The only albums I listen to now are Achtung Baby, Zooropa and especially Pop. And the Zooropa/Pop tours are just so fucked up that I'm in awe everytime I stream them.

How can you get sick of their pre-90s stuff? That's the ONLY stuff worth listening too.
I love me some U2, don't get me wrong, but there is definitely a line in the sand where they switched sounds, musical aesthetics... the whole 9 yards. I enjoy some of the newer stuff, but it can't hold a candle to the old stuff. War? October? Come on... that's classic flawless shit there.

Ditto for everything you said there. I like mainly the first three tracks of the new album. I also really like Pop as it's dark, sardonic, and moody. It's one of their best, along with Actung and the Unforgettable fire.

Don't get me wrong, I love looping live performances of their old stuff, but the album recordings themselves just sound too 'classic'. The album recordings just suck ass compared to what I've seen live post-Joshua Tree. The Zooropa and Pop sound is more modern on the disc and live so they get on my playlist, which for some reason is void of live recordings. I usually 'tube them, even for DVDs I own so I don't have to get up.

They are having a one night not so "secret concert" on Sat night at a little theater right by my house (seats like 200). Good luck getting tickets. If I know about it, everyone in the Boston area does. It's been on every news channel around here. I bet tickets will easily go for over $2k a pop now that the news is out.:frown:

The new CD is without a doubt, their WORST ALBUM. Horrible. Painful.

The only good song is is track 2. Other than that, chunks coming out of your mouth....
