After much delay my home theater upgrade has been complete after this weekend getting a new sammy plasma (actually I got 2 as the first went back with a cracked screen).

Since I had to go and pick up a new one sunday morning instead of finishing saturday night with install I got everything swapped out and the new tv on the mount just in time for football. Haven't done any setting tweaks and it looks pretty good with just default settings.

I had delayed the TV purchase for well over a year as I was waiting for a decent panny deal but really wanted to get something in the 58 inch range (had a 57 rptv before getting a 42 panny plasma) and the real good pannys never seemed to be available at a good price at any size over 50".

On the wall at the place I bought, they had the sammy with a vt25 directly diagonal and an lg set between the two. Just to prove how bad in store settings can be, particularly when fed off of a 3 dozen + common feed, the sammy did not look very good but the LG even topped the vt25.

But separately they had a sammy 7000 a panny s2 and panny vt25 with dedicated bluray players and the 7000 and vt25 looked real damn close in comparison.

Now time to read more in the avs forums to get setting info and other hints.

Congrats. I spent about 30-45 minutes at a store this past weekend staring at a Samsung PN58C8000 next to a PN58C7000 next to a UN55C7000. I also looked at the Panasonic G25 and VT25. Considering a purchase in the next couple of months, but if I do purchase the TV wouldn't be 3D as I don't feel like the technology is mature enough. By that point I should just wait until next years' models come out in the Spring and Summer.

i don't know if I'll use it that much for 3d, but did get a top of the line 58" plasma with a 3d blue ray player and other stuff all for just over $1900 with tax. was looking at good leds (but not top of the line) at one point for about $1600 (and a few inches smaller) so happy with the performance.

and while watching a bit of football with no setting tweaks, it was awesome when it went to commercials and the horizontal and vertical bars that appeared were so black it looked like the bezel shrunk.

And just to show how good the panny line is, with finally having bought a replacement for the den TV, I got to take the 42 panny plasma down and put it back into the bedroom instead of the 32 westy lcd. Watching the football game in bed last night in SD on the panny was so much better than the westy, almost like it was in hd but just a bit fuzzy of a picture.

Make sure to download the 120 break in slides and run them while you're not watching TV. I just got a PN50C8000 (delivered tomorrow sometime) and plan to age it 200-250 hours before letting my parents take a crack at it (don't need the guide or whatever it'll be burned into the plasma). You can put it on a USB stick, saves your DVD player.

You have any buzzing when listening at very low volumes and sitting 'in the sweet spot' from a few feet away?

haven't checked for buzzing yet, only had it on a couple hours on sunday during the games so far. actually had forgot about the buzzing thing after i got it him and nothing was loud enough from the tv to remind me. will have to do a bit of listening the next time i turn it on. although the way some describe it, i probably wouldn't hear it anyways as the seats are about 9 feet away and the tv's center is mounted about 2 feet above eye level and tilted down slightly.

Just got our PN50C8000. Came with the 1032 firmware (I'll have to check the build date...the 1032 is fairly new), no buzzing as far as I can tell. Relief is all I can say.... :)

Think they all buzz to some degree, especially the 58" and 63" models. If you can't hear it even right up to the tv, you've probably lost that hearing range. I could probably hear mine from 20ft+ now if the room was large enough, it gets worse as you break in the tv. This is my 2nd, and I've seen guys on AVS get like 5 replacements hoping for no buzz, without any luck.

Overall though it is a great tv, using mine for pc/ps3 gaming.

The link that thegimp03 provided is what I was talking about. There's a 70 slide version and a 120 slide version: I used the 120 slide version.

Make sure that your TV isn't going to time out or cycle through once and then put up a guide or something. The objective is to have this going repeatedly non-stop, over and over. The last thing you want is for it to go for a certain amount of time while you're away, and then sit there on the guide with the guide image potentially burning into the screen (exactly the thing the burn in slides are helping to prevent).

"Sammy" "panny" "westy".... Do you have some kind of developmental disorder? Do you say these things in real life? Let me guess, you say "lappy" too.

Congrats. You won't read about it at many review sites, which evalute 3D TV(s) in the television paradigm only, but the Samsung 2D to 3D conversion does an excellent job converting *any* HDMI 2D input signal, and thus...games! Connect your PC, Xbox, or PS3 to it. The result is an understated (but more realistic) 3D effect, where things don't "pop" out at you for the show like they do from 3D sources (e.g., 3D blu-ray).

The biggest advantage is frame-rate. You off-load the 3D conversion overhead to the TV while your PC graphics card operates as normal in 2D. As we all know, relying on the graphics card to perform 3D conversion causes a significant framerate hit (e.g., NVIDIA 3D Vision).

The biggest disadvantage however is scan rate. I think HDMI 1.3a input is still limited to 60 Hz, while NVIDIA 3D will give you 120Hz over DVI.

No, I just realize how common they are in forum discussions.
