I'm buying a TV for my apartment, but Im running into a snag trying to think of where to put it. I'm in an old apartment and most all of my power plugs are the older two-plug outlets (America btw). I have one outlet that has a three-prong for grounding, but its in an odd position and taken up by my computer desk.

Obviously I want to protect the TV but every surge protector Ive seen has the 3rd prong. I have a 3-prong to 2-prong converter, but using that will cancel out the surge protector right?

yes, using an adapter would prevent the surge protector from working.

i ran into the same situation. your best bet (if you don't feel like arguing with your landlord) is to use 2 prong adapters and then get GFCI adapters to go between those and your devices.

Good news! Moved some furniture around and found another grounded outlet in the other room (which is where I wanted the TV anyway). Crisis averted, thanks vshah for your help :)

excellent. do make sure that the outlet is actually grounded though! i have several 3 prong outlets in my apartment, only a few of which actually had a ground wire connected.
