New tv suggestions.

I've recently decided I want a new TV and I haven't even looked at TVs since 2009. I have a 42" samsung plasma that I'm perfectly happy with, but I'd like a new, bigger, and better TV for the living room so I can move the old one to my bedroom. I'm looking for something either 50" or 55" with a good quality panel, that displays rich color and deep blacks. I prefer plasma but I will definitely look at other options if necessary. I want no less than 3 HDMI inputs. I would like the TV to be 3D/smart capable, but it's not necessary. And finally my budget is about $1,100. I've looked at a few samsungs and panasonics but I'm not seeing too much I want and there's just too many to sort through and find the right one, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you could find a Panasonic ST60 somewhere you'd be in luck. Best Buy has them for $999.99. It's a good set for most usages I'd say. If you are a serious gamer who is sensitive to input lag it may be noticeable on the ST60, but I don't think everyone will be able to tell at all. You didn't mention gaming but I'm just throwing that out there.

It fits all your requirements. Smart TV, 3D (2 pair of active glasses included), 3 HDMI ports, Plasma

I said good. I could get a [lousy] sandwich for $1k but that doesn't mean it's a good sandwich.

Well up to the OP to decide which brand he prefers.

From what i've seen Panasonic is the leader and samsung is 2nd in the Plasma market. This will change in the future as panasonic is set to leave the market.

In his Price range.

Both of these models look like great choices on the link I provided.

Samsung PN51E8000 51-Inch (2012 Model)
*Used $700

Samsung PN51F5500 51-Inch (2013 Model)
*New $797

*The 8000 series is high end model for 2012 however 2013 model is out of budget so I choose to compare with the 5500 series.*

Panasonic TC-P50S60 50-Inch
*Used $1,145 *over budget*

I've been looking at the ST65 and watching reviews and demos, as well as the samsung D8000. I already know it's probably going to boil down to the st60, st65, or either one of the samsung options. Also to answer your question I will be playing many games on the new TV. I was recently given a crappy insignia 42" LCD but I couldn't get the picture to look "good" for any application, so I gave it to a friend in need. I appreciate the feedback and the suggestions guys, if there are any more you can think of I'll be glad to hear it!
