I'm a big JVC fan, but having a neighbor with limited funds I suggested a Sanyo 31" from Wal-Mart. I'm VERY surprised with the quality of the picture! It was less than half the price of my JVC 32"!

the samsung and toshiba HDTV's are pretty decent, for more information you might wanna check out hometheaterforum.com and look under direct-view displays.

if money is no concern, the best out there is sony wega i think (but you'll be paying a hefty sum). HDTV 36" is about $1500 i think? (maybe $2000? too lazy to check - still riding off those brownies). Other companies like Samsung and Toshiba are about <$1000

If you want a TV now, go for HDTV unless you're wanting to keep it under $500 or so. Make sure to factor in the price of a TV stand with your purchase (that's why i'm going for a rear projection wide-screen HDTV, 40" toshiba or 42" - price is virtually the same - $1200 - with a 36" + stand)

NewSc2 - What model are you looking at for that price? The HDTV models I looked at are about $1800.00 in 36".

Bestbuy.com, Samsung 32" dynaflat HDTV monitor - TXM-3296HF - $950

The 40" model Toshiba 40H80 widescreen HDTV rear-projection can easily be found for <$1500, and i've seen them go for as low as $1200-1300.

:) LMK if u need any other advice, but hometheaterforum.com has a pretty good pro/con of each model, however, most people own DLP/Plasma displays or LCD projectors or something of the like.

Panasonic Tau is pretty good too
