The gf had a 2012 Toyota Corolla. I had a 2013 Kia Forte (that I wanted to sell).
She liked the 'updated' look of my Kia (navigation, heated seats, power seats, etc). After looking at 2016 Corolla's, she decided she wanted to upgrade.
The driving factor was that the 2012 Corolla, while having less than 45,000 miles, had some rattles, including one coming from the center dash cluster and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Tried pulling out stereo and all. It was seriously annoying and we both started to hate the car because of it (we carpool every morning to work).
So GF has bright idea that we should trade our cars in and get her a new Corolla. They offered me $1,000 less than what my car was listed on Autotrader for, but still good KBB value. They offered her KBB on hers as well. Deal was 'good enough'.
We ended up leasing the 2016 because she was likely going to trade it in anyway after 2 years and the lease payment was a little less than half of what the monthly payment on a 6 year loan would be.
Anyway... this new car already has a worse rattle than the 2012. It's a nice car. Leather, navigation. It's the most expensive, best trimmed Corolla. It's a great car, but the experience is being ruined by this damn rattle! This one is coming from the top of the dash, about 12 inches in from the speedometer. If I push down on the dashboard, it stops. But otherwise, it sounds someone is shaking a cup of dice. The slightest vibration, even on smooth highways, it just rattles and rattles. It started as a light tick at about 800 miles, and now with just 1600 miles on odometer, it just sounds like something is broken.
Am I wrong for feeling like my confidence in the long term viability of the car is already in question? If something like this simple rattle surfaces so early, it makes me wonder what else is going to go wrong.
We're busy this month, but after things settle, we're going to take it up to the dealer. I'm worried they'll just make it worse or create new rattles because i'm thinking they'll have to take the entire dash apart just to get to it.
