Because that's how they tuned it. V* is probably tuned for torque, while the V6 is probably tuned for HP.

Lots of R&D has been put into the V-6 engines over the past few years. I doubt if much research has been applied to the V-8 engines. That's why the V-6 engines have good H.P. and torque outputs. Plus, they get great gas mileage, too.

It's just tuned for horsepower. That's all.

The V8 has a heck of a lot more torque though (around 40 more lb-ft IIRC). Torque is more important than HP in a truck anyway.

Depends on how much the option price for the V8 was. If it wasn't that much, I'd just go for the V8.

Buahaha. The 4-Runner's V6 ownz the VQ in the Pathfinder and let's not even discuss the Pathfinder getting owned by the V8. Also, the new 4-Runner is fast as hell. Something like 0-60 in 7.8 seconds.

On road and off-road, the 4-Runner would stomp the Pahtfinder (especially with the 4-Runner's XREAS suspension off-road). Not to mention that the Pathfinder is based on a platform that dates back to '96 and isn't up to the 4-Runner's level of fit, finish, and safety:p

I'll take mine grey with the Sport Package :p

Seriously though, there is NO comparison with the Pathfinder vs the new 4-Runner.

Who buys SUVs for drag racing or off-roading?

Well that's fine and dandy but I'm not gonna drive around in a car I don't like the looks of. For anything I'd use an SUV for a Pathfinder is perfect adequate. In either case, the few SUVs I'd consider getting now would be a 1st gen 4Runner, current Pathfinder and current or previous gen Range Rover. I was thinking of getting my friend's 90 4Runner and dropping a new motor but I don't need another vehicle right now.

"In the most recent comparison test we conducted, the Pathfinder beat out all other midsize SUVs to earn first place. Since then, the Ford Explorer, the Toyota 4Runner (all new for 2003) and the Chevy TrailBlazer/GMC Envoy have been redesigned. There's also the all-new Sorento, an affordably priced offering from Kia."

I guess we need to wait for another comparo, but I'm sure the 4Runner will beat out the Pathfinder. That being said, I prefer the looks of the Pathfinder. But I just got a 2003 GMC Envoy. :)

Well, when the 4-Runner beats the Pathfinder in every conceivable category, drag racing and off-roading are just the icing on the cake.

the pathfinder has the vq? i thought it had the vg like the xterra

and really, for almost all everyday driving, torque > horsepower

The Pathfinder has had the VQ since model year 2000.5
