Remember the other day I was asking about guitars?

Well I eventually just went to the store and picked one out.

"Ibanez EWC30QHERLG1201"

I played all the acoustic-electrics at GC that were within (and a little above) my price range. They were all pretty similar, though some of the higher end Martins played pretty well. The lower-end Ovations (celebrity, ultra) were terrible...they seemed pretty interesting and have a pretty impressive fan base but they don't play that well and I hate that they're made out of some weird plastic. I fell in love with this guy...all the other Ibanez "exotic wood" guitars were actually pretty bad, especially knowing that most of the looks were achieved through veneers (epic fail). This one is all mahogany, body and neck, satin finish (I was getting a little tired of the whole shiny finish thing) although the top is laminated and not solid. Originally cost $450, but I talked the guy down to $400. The reliable Ibanez action makes this guitar a really fun and easy guitar to play, and it doesn't sound half bad either...satisfyingly bright, especially compared to the massive Fender dreadnought I'm upgrading from.

Hooray for impulse buys motivating me to get back into playing a lot of guitar :)

Oh question...how am I supposed to change the strings of this guitar? My Fender is the same way although I've never changed the strings...how am I supposed to change strings in guitars with the little white pegs?

You pull out the pegs.

edit: First unravel the end in the tuning knob, then when the string is loose and out from that, remove the peg and take the string out.

as simple as that.

You have to loosen the strings from the tuning pegs, first through. The tension on the springs helps hold the pegs in.

congrats on the guitar. looks nice. i'm a fan of satin finish. and smart move for picking up a solid wood guitar. my norman has a solid spruce top w/ a satin finish.

this is my acoustic. B20 i bought it in canada a few years back when the exchange rate helped. rang up about $300 US at the time. sounds great and plays fantastic once i had it set up.

It is wood, or wood venere? If it's venere, it may not have been the best choice.

Also, don't knock Ovations---they actually are a nice guitar manufacturer and their resin back is built to project sound out the front (it's pretty innovative).

As mentioned, the strings stay in place by tension. You just have to loosen the strings and pull the pegs. Easy as that.

Yep. Loosen the strings and pull the pegs out. After that you can either just cut the string midway, or can just keep unwinding the string at the head of the guitar (Where you tune it.)

When putting on new strings, You'll see there's a slot near the bottom of the pegs. This is where the End of the string goes (When you get strings, one side has a little knob at the end like this) After sliding the string in the peg, stick the peg down in the peg hole and run the string up to the correct tuning peg. This part is a little tricky, it took me a few times to actually make it look good.. :p
My way of doing this part is to wrap the string around the tuning peg a few times (WITHOUT going through the hole on the tuning peg at first) and once around.. I'd say.. twice, I put it through the hole. You need to make sure that you put the string around the right way so that when you tighten it, it actually tightens and doesn't loosen it. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Once you have that done, tighten it a bit and move to the next string. When all strings are done, then I play them a bit (not up to tune yet) and bend them to break them in. After a few minutes, I tune it up to goodness.

Hope that helps :p

Edit: BTW, nice guitar. But I have to ask... what is that other input on the end of the guitar where you plug the cord in? It looks like a mic input or something like that?

And I have to agree, the higher end Martins definitely have an amazing sound. Every time I go into GC I pick one up and play it for a while. Then cry. I'm still thinking about buying a Martin in the ~1300-1500 price range.

XLR input.

Just another way of connecting your guitar to a sound system.

If I could make a suggestion, take a look at a Martin D-15. It's an all wood guitar (no laminates), has the same basic construction as a D-28, and is under $800. My D-15 has been my main acoustic for 5 years now.

Should have gotten an Alvarez. Yes, pull out the wooden pins. Looks like mine in a way. Koan wood?

Mine is Hawaiian Koan wood.
