Well, i finally did it, went and bought myself a Digital Rebel XT.

Got the regular kit,

Digital Rebel XT
18-55mm Lens

Since I got it from Dell (Insert thanks to AT Hot Deals forum here) i decided to get the - two year after the one year manufacturer warrantee for $99...

Then of course i figured I needed to get another lens..so i went with the 100mm-300mm
telephoto USM....very nice!

Anyone got a Rebel X yet? Care to share some pics? Thoughts?

This thig rocks, I love it already! Now i just need to take some more photos, i got a 1GB CF for it, holds about 110 pics in RAW mode and about 210 (for those everyday photos)in the highest JPG mode. Very cool!

Some quick pics I took last night in about 1/2 an hour or so that I had free....all taken with the stock 18-55mm lens, i let a friend who has a 300D borrow my 100-300 to try it out before he buys one..get that back tonight! :)

This new deal for $759+s&h for the kit from deal was very tempting, except that I got mine from the last time around already. It's a great camera, I'm very happy with it. I've never owned or used any type of SLR before but always wanted one. That said, I can't do a comparison to other models out there.

Still the pics it takes are fantastic. Now I just need to save up for a 18-125 or 18-200 sigma lens for everyday usage and maybe a 50mm 1.x for lowerlight indoor occasions. Well, that, and studying up on some more photography books. :p So much to learn.

At least auto mode works well too!

Just be warned if you ever venture into the Canon Lens forum at DPreview.com. Those "pros" make you feel like you're nothing if you don't own an entire set of Canon "L" lenses.

Expect your 100-300mm to be labeled as "crap" compared to the $1700 Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM lens.

Congrats!!

I have the original DRebel and I love it. I have had mine for about 14 months and it has been a joy the whole way. I actually saw the RebelXT at Costco the other day and played with it for a few minutes. Much smaller than my Reb. I actually didn't care for it much, as I have large hands and the org rebel just fits me perfectly.

Either way, you are going to love it. It's so nice that compact flash is so cheap these days too. I still need to pick up a couple of 1GB cards.

Enjoy

Yea people can be snobs. But in the end there is a surprising consensus on what is a good photo so just let your work do the talking and you'll be fine.

I just bought an XT kit (body and lense) yesterday. It is my first "real" camera and I have been nothing but pleased with the few pics I have taken so far.

Yeah, been there before! The 100-300 was much better than the 70-300 they offered, had like a 0.8x magnifier...all set with that...

Anyone know of any good third-party lens that are compatible? Maybe some Pentax gear?

for 4rd party lenses stick to SIgma and Tamron, pentaz doesnt make any lenses that fit anything other then the pentak camera mount

depending on what specific lens you are looking for pretty much decides if you go with sigma or tamron

Wait, you can get the XT kit for $759? Damn. I'm trying to keep from picking up a DSLR because I don't want to spend the money, and I should get more out of this A85. But it's really tempting. If the XT is 759, then the 300D should be even cheaper, right? I've held the two in the stores and really don't like the feel of the XT, much prefer the 300D. Nice pics, btw!
