Can't do that either :D

You always get the "kids college, need new carpet, need new mattress, need new curtains, etc" line. Damn practical wives!

I feel you, my W1070 is on hold for more than a year now :( Just planned a trip to India for later this year, so I guess I am not getting in anytime soon either

That's more of a 'having children' problem than a 'being married' problem. Didn't they tell you in high school that having children means the end of your life? Isn't basking in the glory of being a father greater than anything else? :hmm:

Nice, I have a mini drone too, probably smaller than that one, wanted to just get my feet wet too before I buy a big one. It's cool but range sucks (even just straight up line of sight it drops due to loss of signal) but for what I paid I can't complain.

Eventually want to buy a better one or even build one. Basically you can buy all the parts and just assemble them. I'd probably build my own frame, something rather basic in wood or something.

One of these days I want to also build a weather balloon drone. Essentially a payload lifted up with a bunch of sensors and stuff and maybe even a camera. Something that will transmit APRS and maybe video. I need to read up way more on ham radio first and eventually get my license. If you use those aluminium "happy birthday" balloons you can have it circle the earth several times before it finally dies.

What would be really cool is to actually launch a drone from a weather balloon then fly it down. Too bad it would be illegal though. :/

Got the HTC Vive in last weekend. It is fricking awesome and I'm not even a big gamer (like I was in high school/college anyway) anymore. It's really put together well and is high quality; no wonder it costs what it does.

Not sure if there is a thread like this and never seen one since I've been a member here.

Bought a quadcopter UAV. I was impressed with a guy who had one and had a video of a hawk attacking it on YouTube. So I bought this for around $80 and has a camera. Just want to get my feet wet in UAVs before I buy the $400 model.

Why is the OP calling them UAVs?

Can't do that either :D

You're doing it wrong. You buy stuff like this "for the kids" and then you try it out "oh no, I think it's too dangerous for them to play with right now, when they get older!"

UAV is technically the correct term for drones. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. A true drone is technically something you can send out on a mission (ex: specific flight path and actions) and it will do it mostly autonomously. Though with some of the drones out now you actually can do that. But, that's just semantics anyway, most people know what you're talking about if you say drone and the context is hobby stuff. So the word kind of stuck.

818 has a camera.

I think the 818 was the one I got a couple Christmases ago. Super performances. The gyros are so good these days. Speaking of batteries, you can buy them in boatloads off Amazon from their basics brand. 36-pack of AAA's for $10 shipped: (non-subscription price)

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Performance-Alkaline-Batteries-36-Pack/dp/B00LH3DMUO/

48-pack AA's for $12.49 shipped:

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Performance-Alkaline-Batteries-36-Pack/dp/B00LH3DMUO/

Also, do yourself a favor & buy some extra drone batteries. A 2-pack with charger here is $16 shipped:

Or a 5-pack of just the batteries for $23 shipped:

I recently got a 2-handed smartphone gimbal. Takes absolutely amazing footage with my 4K iPhone 7+. I suspect I won't be shooting anything on my "real" camera gear for the rest of the year. Soooooooo much fun!
