New toy - Best purchase ever! (yes i've been missing out)

I'm all about the hardware and stuff, and I thought i had a decent sound set up (dolby 5.1 cambridge sound works speakers) and it is decent.

I havent owned a CD player in a while so i never had a need for headphones. But i got these today on an impulse buy. IT'S LIKE A FREAKING STEREO TAPED TO MY HEAD.

It makes it so much easier to get artwork done when i have the music bumpin in my head! I bow to you audiophiles who have those $150 sets. I can only imagine the ear damage you're causing to yourselves! But i'm hooked now... perhaps i will eventually pick up a nice set.

I'm so sad i didnt realize how nice good headphones are a long time ago. to music!

While we're on the subject, does anyone have thoughts on the Sennheiser PMX60's? I'm looking for a good "street-style" pair of headphones.

Oh, and I'm not trying to hijack the thread. Really. 😛

Yea i have em. Get the KSC-55 from Koss, they're way better. These senns are decent, but their a little harsh and the resolution sucks. The KSC-55's have a great driver and should sound great.

Hmm....that's interesting! I would have assumed the Sennheiser's were better. And these look cheaper too.

I'll look into them, thanks for the suggestion. 🙂

Edit: And now that I think about it, I have actually used "The Plug" earphones from Koss in the past, and they sounded great - good bass, etc. I just stopped using them because they were a hassle to put on, and became quite uncomfortable after a while.

Pick up some Grado 60's (sells for about $60) or Grado 80s (sells for about $80-90). They are nice headphones. Only two things that people tend not to like is their "retro" look and that after several hours it tends to be uncomfortable <shrug>. At least for me they work fine. 🙂

Headphones can indeed be a worthwhile purchase. I bought a set of AKG K141 Monitors after my former (anal) downstairs neighbors constantly complained about any sort of music playing after 7pm. I don't use them as much anymore now that I've moved, but I still break them out on occassion.

I have two pairs.

One for work, one for home.

For work, I use sealed can:
Sennheiser HD 280 Pro $99 at this site, but you can find them for $85)
I hate it at work enough, so I try to block out everything!

For home, I have these open air cans:
Grado SR60 ($70)

Both are under $100 and neither need a headphone amp. Both are EXCELENT headphones. Prefer the Senns but the Grado's have their place 😉

Quality cans are not at all about volume, but sound quality.

What you gain by spending $150 (or far, far more) on headphones is clarity.

Just to update - I ended up buying these headphones today. No local retailer had them in stock, so I had to drive down to Houston to get them. I had no idea open street-style headphones could produce so much bass. 😛

Best $20 I ever spent.

I picked up this model on eBay- spectacular sound. I particularly like them for deep vocals, where my cheapo speakers just buzz or mumble.
