I never believed one should need to own such a powerful drill, but decided to try it out myself and I bought one for cheap. I'll have to bring it at the range construction site some time and try it out.

Yeah nice thing with the SDS bits is they lock in though. The issue I had with my other drill when using it to make holes is the bit would just start to spin inside if it caught the concrete the wrong way. Though with this drill I wonder if it's just going to bring me for a ride instead. :p

I can't wait to try some core drilling with this. I have a few projects that may require it.

Pistol grip, short overall length (would qualify as an SBR), can mount accessories (front grip), has a drill bit... might as well consider that a bayonet. Dang man, you do have an assault drill!!

I agree SDS is the way to go, but as hammer drill go the below is my favorite.

I always had a love hate relationship with SDS bits. The work great when the chuck isn't worn out. If you are using yours for primarily home use, I doubt you'll see the downside (except the price as mentioned before).

When the chuck wears out, or even get lots of dust in it, it becomes very difficult to remove the SDS bit, and to get the new one to lock in

and it's fully automatic. One pull of the trigger and it just keeps drilling.

I have use older models to those many times in the past. They are good, but heavy as hell for drilling/coring horizontal holes all day long. Better way to make large holes would be a wet coring drill. And, leaving the smaller holes to smaller SDS machines.

I own the Hilti electric breaker, it's a nice tool, but the Dewalt (I own that one as well) breaker hits just as hard for about $800 less money.

Astonishing that I four grand tied up in breaking hammers.

i would imagine the hilti lasts longer though. dewalt is great stuff, some of the best you can buy, but nothing ive known are built like hiltis. well im sure there are some super custom tools out there, but commercially available stuff that the public can get at, i just dont know of anything like it.

their shopvacs are awesome too.

Yeah I have a dewalt rotary hammer drill and it works pretty good for the most part. Though I find for concrete what tends to happen is the bit just starts to slide. So the SDS bits on this new drill will probably be nice for that. I may have to punch a 5 or 6 inch hole through cinder block some time to run a vent so it should go nice with my new drill so I can't wait to see how that goes. I did one for my bathroom fan vent a few years back using the dewalt but I did not have the proper attachment so I was just drilling a bunch of small holes. With the bit slipping all the time it made the job quite hard and long.

Never actually tried a Hilti now that I think of it... but everywhere I hear they're the best. I'd definitely have to look at them next time I buy a tool.

..and youll end up buying exactly what you bought. what you got is about the best bang for buck out there. hilti is stupid expensive, but they are intended to be used 12 hours a day, 365 days a year on commercial job sites. basically any large expensive building you see go up, it was built in good portion with hilti power tools.

for what us normal people need, that bosch is kick ass.
