New Topic, but same old story. Noisecontrol Silverado or Alpha PAL 8045?

I'm trying to decide which to use on my system. Price is not an issue but performance and noise are my main concerns. Any ideas?

never having used a NCS, i'd vote alpha with low speed fan (Panaflo L1A) which is what I have. AX-7 looks excellent also, and a tad cheaper.
CPU speed, O/C?

8045 w/ L1A hands down. If it won't fit on your mobo, check out the AX-7. If you want to overclock just get an M1A and your set. You can eve do some light overclocking with the L1A if you wanted to.

CPU speed is default for Athlon XP 1800 @ 1.53Ghz. I'm wasn't really considering overclocking. I was more concerned about keeping the CPU cool because I don't have air conditioning in my apt. & ambient air temps can hit 85+ during summer.

The 8045 will be more than adequate. It's arguably the best heatsink on the market right now. I live in the south, and it gets hot as crap around here. I have the 8045 and had a L1A on for a while, it worked great. I'm overclocking now so I bought an M1A and just slapped it on there. As far as I'm concerned, the NCS doesn't even compete.

Thanks for the info Grendel99. By the way, have you ever owned a NCS? I'm not trying to split hairs with you or anything, but I was just curious as to how you prefer the Alpha over the NCS? By the way, do you have your fan blowing into the HS or out of it?

Go with the Alpha, I wouldnt even consider the Silverado. Anand did a good roundup awhile ago, it?s missing some of the newer HS/F's but both the Alpha and the Silverado are included. As the results will show the Alpha is superior in just about every respect, the only downside to the Alpha is complicated install procedure.

Thanks Operandi. I had read that review awhile ago & I totally forgot that both of the HSFs I'm considering were in there. Thanks for the reminder.

All of a sudden, things aren't looking so good for the NCS (not including the fact that it takes forever to get a hold of one).
