Now it just needs comparison to the SLK-900 so we know what those numbers really mean.
...but personally, I wouldn't trust my socket to support anything that big...I mean what if it taps the workbench as I'm readying it for my room?

Well, the review claims it is quiet, with the right fan, but our Zalmans are a lot prettier, too. It looks like a block of copper, nicely polished, with a bunch of springs and brackets sticking out in all directions. Sloppy.

Well it looks nice but at that price it won't be #1 for a long time. Personally, I've been trying to find a middle of the road fan for boxes I have been building for freinds. I have been using a nice little combo from Galaxy -- the g800 or something like that. I was on newegg and they were a cheap little off brand with really good reviews so I picked one up. It cooled better than my thermatake volcano 9 modded and it was 1/3 the price. The most recent setup that I should have in my hands this week is a thermatake 10+ (volcano). I'll let you know how that cools an amd 2500 in a decent antec case with two or three fans.

I just wonder how much $$ I am pissing away on air cooling. How many of you guys/gals are already knee deep in h20 cooling? Should I save my pennies and get a vapochill? How much quieter is water cooling than air?

I still turn my box off at night cause it's still very loud. I guess a reobus would lower the noise a bit but I've been hesitant to buy one.

I'll report backon the volcano 10+ next week.

I'll find out and test it against an slk900a using a quiet fan and a 92mm tornado in various speeds. Should be here thursday. Unless the hurricane says otherwise.

It isn't good looking at all. But if it is a performing beast...

I am glad that we have companies like Thermalright and Swiftech who concentrate on actual performance and not looks, as some do. Speaking of which thermaltake was going to send their silent boost. Mentioned It'd be tested against an sk7 using the same fans, nothing has shown up since. :D

lol that is the UGLIEST heatsink i've ever seen. Looks like someone was bored so decided to hammer a bunch of nails into a piece of copper. Would'nt mind seeing how it performs in comparison to the SLKxxx series though... :)

That's a pretty creative design tweak. Hopefully price will drop though, that's a lot of dough.

I don't care what it looks like as long as it performs well. And for the record, I think it's kinda cool looking. :p

yup:)

if it delivers, the look doesn't matter:)

personally i find it interesting looking.

i do wonder if those extreme fans sound as quiet as the "quiet" fans if you speed control them

I think that they new Thermalright one looks, and probably performs better.
The one that looks like a SLK-900A with heatpipes through it.

Umm, why get something butt-ugly that performs well when you can get something that looks great and performs equally as well if not better? Doesn't take too much working out really... and i'm sure there are plenty of people who care about how it looks. You wouldn't put a butt ugly good performing exhaust on a sleek ferrari would you? ;)

Initial testing shows 1-2 degrees F higher than the SLK900-A with using a 92mm tornado on full speed on both, idle and load.

Running the tornado at a quiet 2600, the swiftech is about 2-5 degrees F higher than the slk900a.

Perhaps I didn't install it correctly or have it tight enough. But I did follow the included directions. I'll redo it all and try again later. Offhand, I much prefer the clip-on method that the slk900a has. The swiftech is suppose to 'snap in', but it isn't that easy. Fans attach using a pin, and they aren't easy to remove. That is if you wish to change fans. And I will be testing it with 3-4 different fans.

I played around installing the swiftech on a dead mobo. It never 'snapped in'. Removing it was rather dificult too. I always had to use a small flathead screwdriver to assist in removing one clip.

more later..

Any updates with different fans (ie. 80mm and such)? Thanks for the info. 'Tis a great help for those in the high-end cooler market.

Instead of copying and pasting a long post, see here about my bad luck. :(

You don't have a lot of room on the a7n8x to work with the swiftech with those darn capasitors in the way, but there is a bit more room on the shuttle an35n, see here.

*What I did was leave 2 clips on for each size fan so it'd fit an 80 and 92mm without having to unscrew the clips with the heatsink installed and risk cpu damage. That's why it may look a bit weird.

Installing and taking it off is much easier now that there is more room to work with on the shuttle.

Before my asus died (grrr) I did reinstall the swiftech again and again temps were higher with it.

Temps on the an35n run about 7 degrees F higher than on the asus, but testing the 80mm tornado on the slk900a and on the swiftech, temps are again 3-6 degreees higher on the swiftech. Now thats fahrenheit, not celsius. In celsius that's 1-3 c difference.

I tested running the 80mm tornado on top and very noisy speed, and a quiet 3100rpm using a fan controller. At either speed, the 900A did better, load and idle temp.

I really thought the swiftech would be better. But I guess this means there is something to be said for all copper.

Still need to do more testing with using the 92mm tornado and the 80mm quiet nbm fan on the swiftech.

Also note, the SLK947U does not fit the shuttle an35n. The SLK900A, does.

If there's a fan on top of it, you really can't see much of its 'ugliness'.

It cools well, but it isn't the best. Closer to sk7 performance.

Sorry about your board though...

Thanks :)

I'm sorry too. :( But this shuttle is pretty good.
