Just moved from Windows98 to XP. Had long planned to fight the urge & move to Linux, but caved in.

Microsoft has a Help page explaining how to add items to the START menu, but it doesn't tell how to add items to Start/All Programs.

In Win98 that was easy, just go into "Settings\Advanced"

In XP, say I want to put a shortcut onto the Start\All Programs that didn't get put there automatically when a program was installed. How???

It's in your Windows profile. "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" or "C:\Documents and Settings\[your name]\Start Menu". The first one adds the shortcut for all users (shared) and the second one is just for your account.

If you want the link to show on all users:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

If you want it to show on current user only:
C:\Documents and Settings\--user-login--\Start Menu\Programs

Or you can simply drag/drop the shortcut to the start > programs listing.

edit: never mind, i was looking at old page and didn't refresh so i didn't see the reply posted by igowerf
