I would like to add HTPC functions to my existing system. I'm considering MCE or MythTV. Could someone please advise me on the following:
  1. With MCE, can I switch back and forth between the standard XP desktop and the MCE interface without rebooting?
  2. Will my existing XP apps, e.g., MS Office, run the same under MCE?
  3. Does MCE have a free program guide built-in, or do I have to subscribe to an EPG service?

WinXP MCE is obsolete and no longer being updated by Microsoft though. You should invest in Vista Home Premium. Vista's Media Center is much better.

Thanks for the reply, Shawn. I'll consider Vista. I have an old box with a Sempron and 1GB to dedicate to the HTPC. May not work well with Vista nor be a good upgrade candidate.
