Hello everyone. I have been reading and reading on this watercooling and it is one giant clog in my brain. I get the basics of it all with a couple exceptions.

1. Are compression fittings used in place a regular barb and clamp or do you still use clamps.
2. are Ek waterblocks any better then any other kinds out there I see they mix metals on a couple of items so I was just wondering.
3. I have my WC gear in mind but any suggestions would be appreciated.
Here is my gear I will be cooling.

Asus Rampage Formula(not sure of a block to cool the northbridge if i even need to)
Q9550
2x 4850 HIS TurboX video cards
Stacker 830
OCZ Reaper Crossfire Certified 2x1gb 2 kits for a total of 4gb

I was thinking of just cooling the CPU cause that is the only thing im going to OC. and use fans to cool the rest. I have a modest budget of around 350 to 400 dollars.

The gear I am considering
Swiftech MCP-655
Feser X-Changer dual 120mm Rad
Swiftech MicroRes Rev2
Swiftech Apogee GTZ cpu block
PrimoChill 1/2 inch ID 3/4 OD tubbing

Like I said I am very new to WC and any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, compressions eliminate the need for clamps but be sure to order the right size for the ID and OD of your tubing.

IMHO, there is no "BEST" block that will fit all applications. Match the block to your pump and particular loop configuration.

Looks like a good parts list to me. I'm partial to the Masterkleer 7/16" tubing myself. The GTZ is a great block, a bit pricey for me though. Many will probably recommend the MCP355 pump with a top as opposed to the MCP655 though.

IMHO, watercooling the NB is really for show. A good aftermarket air cooler on the NB is plenty and just makes your loop less complicated.

I generally agree with Gillbot, parts list looks fine. If you are interested in getting your feet wet (so to speak) without dropping a large sum of money, you might consider getting a kit. I know many people deride kits as horrible, but the Swiftech H20-22 Apex Ultima Liquid Cooling Kit is a very fine little kit which will only set you back about $240 + shipping. It includes all the parts you've listed but uses a Swiftech MCR220 rad instead and uses the 7/16" tubing that Gillbot recommends. If you later want to get compression fittings, different tubing, or a different rad, you'll still have enough room in your budget to do so.

I caution you to be careful with the compression fittings on the Apogee GTZ. They can be used, but do your homework and leak test carefully. You can't just slap them on the GTZ and have them work perfectly.

If you want them, you must match outter wall EXACTLY. And try to match the inner wall within 1/16th of an inch.
