New to tv cards...need advice

A firend of mine just ordered a 52" hdtv and he wants to use it as both his tv and his primary monitor. He's a gamer and runs a vanilla 8800GT that has two standard outputs that aren't compatible with the tv. Is it recommended that he gets a tv tuner card so that he can run his digital cable box into his computer and then to the tv? How should he go about this?

DVI to HDMI adapter to hook up the PC to the TV.

I'd hook up the cable box directly to the TV... A TV Tuner will be useless since he already has the cable box.
