New to this Folding@Home stuff!

I downloaded the latest non-beta F@H, installed it, added username (same as here - Soundmanred), and put 198 in the team field.
Now I need someone to explain to me in simple terms what I'm seeing.
I'm using the graphical interface, BTW.

Donator: Me
Team Number: 198
Finished WUs: What is a WU?
Working on: p2452_Fragment-Recepto GROMACS core
Frames/WUs completed, etc.

Anything else I need to do to be a good contributor?
What about my "stats" and what do they mean?
Thanks!

Welcome to Distributed Computing. I'll help out what I can. 🙂

WU = work unit. Every project downloads chunks of data to work on (aka crunch) and these are called work units. You will see it as WU a lot.

Stats: the source of addition and possible death of threads (inside joke, sorry). Once you get a work unit completed and it is uploaded to the server, you will earn credit for that work unit. "Stats" are essentially a listing of all the work that you, your fellow team members, and other teams have done. For example, GLeeM posted the Folding@Home stats for April 8, 2008 here.

If you are just starting out, don't worry that your numbers may be less than others. Every littel bit helps, and everyone started somewhere.

If you want the big points you should be using the SMP client, 5.91 beta. The deadline for WU's is only a few days, but you should be able to complete a WU in about 20 hours.

Welcome to TA 🙂
Nice rig & overclock 😀

Btw F@H is one of the ultimate stability testers, far more stringent than even a 24hr run of Prime 95!, if your o/c isn't stable enough for F@H it will halt the WU & terminate it with an EUE (Early Unit End) messege. Then it'll try again on a new WU (naturally you'd want to tweak your rig at that point).
For any o/ced rigs crunching F@H for the 1st time I'd recommend checking the F@H logs for the 1st couple of days (assuming 24/7 operation, if not then the equivalent uptime).

j/k ok, i'll go away now

You can look here to find information about WUs. You will see that p2452 is worth 243 points. The benchmark computer, a P4 @ 2.8 for regular WUs will do about 110 points per day (PPD). That web page also shows the deadlines. In order to keep the science moving forward, projects are assigned deadlines. After the Preferred deadline the WU will be re-issued, after the Final deadline no points will be given. The results you send in are used to make the next WU so the quicker a WU is returned, the sooner the next one in line can be sent out.

There is a nice monitoring program that lots of people use called FAHMon, you might want to check it out.

Any more questions, just ask!

You are most welcome here 🙂
