New to SATA

I've got two 120GB HDD, a DVD/CD-RW and a DVD-RW drive that are all PATA. I've also got a 160GB SATA HDD that I'd like to start using. Can I just plug it into my motherboard and it'll show up as the appropriate drive letter, or do I have to configure it. I mean, will the system know that my primary drive is still my primary drive, or will it try to book from the SATA drive?

Thanks.

You might want to check in Device Manager to see if the SATA controller is showing there before adding the drive. You may have to install or update the SATA drivers.

You may have to go into your Disk Manager and initialize the drive.
I had to do that when I first installed my SATA raptor.
Never had to do it again. Even after pulling it out and reinstalling it later.
