How do I overclock it, what setting should I try and what should I watch out for. I do have a good heat sink/fan and thermal compound (light covering).

As I said I am new to this and want to know how high I should expect it to go b4 it gives problems.

Asus A7V motherboard without onboard sound
Duron 600
384 PC100
Voodoo Banshee PCI Video card -

planning on upgrading to a AGP card
eventually will upgrade ram as well

Would it just be cheaper to buy a 1 GIG Duron and live with it?

Does anyone know if Duron/Athlon is the only thing this board supports? IF more, let me know - thank you.

Thanks for any help.

A7V is limited to 100fsb, so anything beyond a 200fsb Tbird it can't run.
Depending on your rev., it will have jumpers or bios settings.
Is your chip unlocked? You will get a far better overclock if you unlock the chip & change the multiplier. This board uses the KT133 chipset which actually means it can't boot at 133fsb

& yes it would probably be cheaper to just buy a 1G duron since they're so cheap :p Actually you could overclock it to 1.25 Ghz with multiplier on the A7V board.

but you could have a nice duron. i had a duron 600 that did 1ghz in my A7V using a good HSF. before you overclock make sure you have a good HSF.

i would try to push that 600
you might get it above 800mhz maybe more
Unlock it here is a website for help on That
you might get the fsb to like 115 if yur lucky max clock mult you'll be able to use on that board is 12.5
there is a 13 and a 14 clock mult but the bios detects the cpuid and won't let you use them unless you got a 1.3 or 1.4ghz chip (maybe athlonxp havn't tryed)
you can always pick up an athlonxp after yur done having fun overclocking that 600 to it's max

That link i gave you was for an athlonxp
the difference for yur duron would be that you only have to use a pencil to connect the L1 bridges "pencil trick"
you could use conductive ink if you wanted also
welp have fun

My board has all the jumpers on it so I can change the fsb, multiplier and something id?

How do I know if the CPU is unclocked or not - is there something on it that describes it as such?

Reboot. Then go into setup & try to change the multiplier to 7X. Save setting & reboot. If the PC says Duron 700...CPU unlock...otherwise...it's locked. Then follow "soulkeeper" link. A7V w/ a KT133 chipset rarely go beyond 110 FSB. Best bet is on a stable 105-108 FSB. So, pushing the multiplier is recommended.

Too bad about that KT133 chipset, those D600's will usually hit 133mhz no problem, I have mine at 7X133 (931mhz) right now, SANDRA puts it neck and neck with a PIII 1Ghz.

Not bad for a $20 chip. :)

I got my 600 running at 900mhz rock solid stable since the day I bought it (over a year ago!). I haven't messed around with the FSB much as of yet - but I'll try to see how I can push it!

Put a good cooler on it, pencil in the L1 bridges to unlock it. If you don't have any core voltage adjustments, pencil in the L7 bridges to make the default cpu voltage 1.85v. You should be able to hit 900-1000Mhz. Don't worry about the fsb, just use the 9-10x multiplier. Computer Geeks has a Voodoo 3 2000 for $19.95, Kyro 32MB for $23.50, and a Kyro 64MB for $29.95. I would go for the Kyro 32MB, the 64MB doesn't give you any noticable boost over the 64MB version. If you want a little more firepower than pricewatch has the Geforce2 Ti 64MB for $55 shipped.
