new to overclocking and lost. :(

I have an ASUS p4t533, with a Pentium 2.26 and 256meg of 1066 RDAM.

I havbe no idea what to do to overclock a bit, or what I should set things to?

Any basic info or suggestions for little more oomph, but without adding coolers or anything?

My settings in the bios say:
CPU/PCI freq 133/33
CPU Vcore 1.5
RDRAM/FSB x4 (which is the max)

Its at 46c.
 
If you're idling at 46C, you aren't going to be getting enough of an overclock to even be worth the trouble of doing it.
 
Yes a new fan. that's too hot for a idel intel CPU. Get some better ventilation for the case as well while you're at it. that should make it worthwhile but honestly, your CPU doesn't have the greatest OC potential as far as pentiums go. What you need is a nice P4 A northwood, 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 - these would OC much better than a 2.26.

How high do you need to go for this OC out of curiosity?

No speciifc OC plans at all, Just wondered if I could bump it up a bit. Is there any logic in using a OC'ed 1.6 over a 2.2??
I see peole getting 2.9 with that chip.

It been 46c since day one, and I have the lid off the case.. How cool should it be? Why do you think it's hot. Just a bad fan to start with? If so, what brand is the one to get? I sure don't want any more noise..
 
all the old RDram OC gurus were @ abxzone.com forums.

you should search that forum, very few here know the exact ins and outs of RDram.
 
Best heatsink: link, nearly as good: link, decent: link, decent, but slightly cheaper: link, and one that's pretty damned good, especially for the price: link. So, if you're running with the top off, you probably dont have any intake or exhaust fans? If not, pick up a couple of 80mm fans, one front (intake), one back (exhaust) minimum with a decent heatsink, and you should be fine.

Well, it's possible to bump up the speed of any CPU, really. Just a matter of how much. With that 2.2, my best guess would be around 150mhz. More if you're lucky.

Your temeratures are a bit high tho, that'll limit you even more. with plans to OC that CPU, I think you should get a 3rd party cooler. I'm not really sure what to recommend since you're not after anything specific on a OC target. Something made of copper and a good fan will do - you can ask around for quiet ones. Also get some thermal compound. Arctic Silver 5 should serve your needs. Those older willamette P4s are rather hot but BIOS temps are sometimes higher than actual temperatures, nothing u need to stress over.

I've never used RDram in my life, so i'm sorry and can't help u in that dept.
