New To overclocking, 2500+

I just purchased a Barton 2500+ (non-mobile), Soltek 75RFN2-L Ultra400 Nforce 2 board, and 512MB PC3200 Samsung Ram

Just thinking about playing around with overclocking it

I CANNOT have this PC ruined. I am a University Student who had my other 1700+ computer fried by a Lightning Storm (along with the P/s and board). And I had to work extra hours to finally get some money to buy the above. So that is pivital

I dont play much for games.....occasionally......

but anyways, Just wondering what I should try.....I bought Samsung Ram I know, but its PC3200 so it should be descent for O'/c'ing

are the 2500+'s unlocked? what should i try for timings....fsb.....core speed? Thanks

No, it isn't unlocked, assuming it's fairly new. And you're going to have a hard time reaching 11x200, more than likely. Most "new" XP2500's (desktop, not mobile) need in the neighborhood of 1.80v or more to hit 11x200, unfortunately. Now, if you've had it for 8-12 months, then it should do at least 11x200, more than likely on stock voltage (1.65v vcore).

If you don't need the extra speed, then don't overclock. You said yourself that you are not a gamer, so don't fall into the trap of overclocking for overclocking's sake. If your system feels fine then leave it alone.

Agreed, if you can't have it ruined, then don't.
PS, you probably should buy a good UPS outlet for your computer.

If you want to anyways, try upping the fsb to 200 @1.7 volts. Ram should be 3-4-4-11 @2.5 or 2.6 volts.

Agreed. No need to shoot yourself in the head. If you're like me, a computer is required for school work. Losing one would drastically affect my grades.

Alright

I won't overclock now. Maybe one day when I want some extra speed. That PC will be fine for Office/Music/Internet and Win XP

What should I use for timings? They could be aggressive since its PC3200 and It will only be runnings at PC2700 speeds
