Hi All,

I just purchased my first Mac and had a few questions. It's a mid 2010 Macbook running El Capitan.

1. Is there anyway to spruce up Safari? The Grey is rather boring.

2. I downloaded hearthstone to see if it could run it, and sure enough it can. But when running full screen I cannot figure out how to exit the program. I tried "esc" but that didn't work, as well as a few other short cuts I found online. Any other suggestions?

3. Are there any must have, preferably free programs I should get?

This is my getting my feet wet Mac. If I like it then something newer might be in my future. A year ago I bought an iPad and its been downhill every since, now I have iPhone, Apple TV, and the Macbook. 2 Years ago I was pretty anti apple so this has been a big shift for me.

Thanks,
Tom

1. Not without third-party software. (Google "Safari themes"). You could also just use Chrome or Firefox, which have theme support.

2. Command-Q is the typical "quit" command. (Equivalent to alt-F4 on Windows.) But some programs remap it and have a different combination. Command-Enter is typically the shortcut to enter/exit fullscreen mode - at least, when it doesn't mean "insert page break", but again, some programs might override it. You should probably check the settings screen(s) for Hearthstone to see what the key bindings are. If you're really desperate, Command-Option-Esc will bring up the "Force Quit" menu.

2b. Why are you in such a big hurry to quit Hearthstone? You're not one of those ragequitting qq'ers, are you? :p

3. Depends what you want to do. Between Garageband, iTunes, Photos, iMovie, and LibreOffice or iWork, you've got pretty much all your productivity bases covered for close to no cost. I code a little, so I like having TextWrangler around.

You should also get Klondike. Not because it's the best Solitaire for MacOS, but because it was the first, and has been maintained for over 30 years, and the guy who makes it is therefore my hero.
