I know this is probably the simplest question for you smart techies but i am ignorant in networking!

I am trying to hook up two pc's via 2

3COM 10BT ETHERLINK XL 3C900B PCI cards, in a pc to pc connection using win2000p as a operating system. How do i start? any help would be appreciated!

Well if you only need those two computers to be networked for file exchanges. Run a crossover cable between them and add either netbui or ipx protocol is the easiest way. If you want to share internet connection it is a little different but not too much. Post what you want out of the network and I will try to respond.

Hi there.
I have exactly the same thing. I have a Win2000p machine which is ADSL'd with a 10/100 network card in it. I also have a NT4 (SP6b) laptop which has a 10/100 card in it. I have bought a cross over cable. The green light shows on the PCMCIA LAN Card and on the desktop PC end so I'm assuming the connection is sound. Now, how do I get the two to talk to each other? I would like my laptop to share the internet connection with the desktop. The Desktop is the primary machine with the net connection (via ADSL). Do enlighten us 🙂 and thanks.

i am thinking of running 10 base-2 with 2 t connectors and 50 ohm resistors, assume at this point i want only to share the info on the computers no internet access, what is my next step?
