New to me - Z06

Started my search about 6 months ago. There were tons in FL, but most were over priced. Finally I found this one in Miami with 38k on it. The owner recently put on new Michelin Pilot Sports. The car is immaculate with the exception of a small rip in the seam of the driver's seat. No biggie. 😎 Only thing I was unsure about is the color. I LOVE the way it looks, but not a fan of the attention it radiates.

Driving impressions: Torque. It has it. 😱 Everywhere. Makes passing effortless in any gear. 1000rpm in 6th? No problem. It will move just as fast as my S2000 did at 3000rpm. The engine is eager to rev. Coming from 4cyl's I was expecting a lazy V8 and was super surprised by its high-rpm characteristics. The same route my s2000 averaged 25mpg, the Z06 does 23. Not bad, especially when you consider it has 400hp+. I've already done the zip tie mod for some extra power. 😛

As much wheelgap as there is, the ride is pretty firm. Not much body roll. Not as direct as my S2000 was, but similar. I might lower it in the future to improve looks a bit, but not in a rush. The seats are super comfortable, yet still somewhat supportive, though nothing like the S2000 in that dept.

So far the car is everything I hoped for. I love it! 🙂

Future mods: MGW shifter, drop, possibly some blacking out in the rear.

I hope you have a good tire budget (unless you have some really good willpower). Grats, that's going to be a lot of fun!

Hah no kidding. The traction light blinks relentlessly even in 2nd if I'm being a hooligan

and they're new tires, gotta break them in

Last Thursday, in the office...

Magrath - "You can take the Z06 home tonight."

Niebuhr - "To what do I owe this honor?"

Magrath - "The Z06 got its new tires today and they're slippery. No one else wants to be the one to crash it."

Niebuhr - "Super."

Magrath - "Just giving you a heads up."

Niebuhr - "Sounds like the mold-release compound needs to be removed."

Magrath - "How are you going to do that?"

Niebuhr - "You'll see."

Lowering it is easy, will take you less than a few hours and makes it look so much better. It actually made me a little mad I waited more than a year to do it to mine.

Sweet! Love the C5 Z06. What year? I remember when I test drove 2001 C5 Z06 which only had 385hp compared to 405hp of the 2002+. I still remember the experience because it was so memorable. I was smiling and grinning the entire time. Insane torque and power on command. This was right after my brother-in-law had totaled my S2000. It was night and day difference in torque. That's when I knew I had to replace the car with a Corvette.

Congrats. I love the red. I would also do the short antenna mod.

Yeah I'm just not looking forward to the scraping of the plastic in the front, even though it's made for that.

I'll probably wait until it's time for new tires so I can kill two birds with one stone when I get an alignment.

It's an 02. Sorry to hear about your S2000s fate.

I'll look into the antenna mod.

23 mpg is pretty impressive for a car like that, that V8 is the same one used in the Holden Monaro I think.

23 is average IMO. It can get in the low 30's with normal highway driving in 6th gear. My 01 C5 got almost 28mpg on a long drive on the highway. Beat my wifes Toyota Rav4 (4cyl).

But V8s can get awful milage if you really drive them hard.

I'd still take a V8 over a Prius on a test track. 😛

Grats! And +10000000 on the MGW shifter. That's what I have in the Cobra, makes the T56 shift so smooth, like the precision oiled snick snick of a Colt Python revolver.

But anything with power can get awful milage if you really drive them hard.

Fixed.

I'm looking to get the MGW shifter for mine. Everyone raves about them and the install looks pretty simple on a C5/6.

I hope to get one of these in the future too. What I don't understand is why the z06 comes with massive wheel gap yet the vanilla vette does not
