New to Linux, a few questions about VMware and Linux Mint

Hi, I messed around with Linux about 5 years ago and it was here and there so i'm really out of the loop here.

Anyway, I have VMware Player installed and I want to install Linux Mint 10 "Julia" 64 bit version, I downloaded the linuxmint-10-gnome-dvd-amd64.iso.

First question; Am I selecting Ubuntu 64 bit as the OS in VMware Player or Debian? The version I have is based on Ubuntu if i'm correct, but Ubuntu is based on Debian right?

Also, it seems I have to boot from the live DVD or ISO( I'll probably just have VMware load the iso, it's faster) get to the desktop and click on the installer from there. Is that right? Any way I can just boot from the dvd/iso and just start installing the OS without going to the desktop and clicking install from there?

Any answers would be great. Thanks.

Is there an option for Linux (other)? That would work too. Typically, all the OS versions in VMware do is pick the most generic hardware for video/mouse and nic driver compatibility.

If you hit a snag, you can always destroy the VM and try again with another OS type selected.

Thanks for the response. I got it going a few days ago, I selected Ubuntu 64 bit. There is no Linux(other), they do have something like 6 different versions listed by kernel version along with the usuals Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, etc...Funny thing is VMware seems to use the same hardware profile for almost everything, the same hardware listed under Linux Mint is listed under my XP Pro VM.

My audio isn't working which isn't a big deal, when I have time i'll mess around some more with it. VMware is using my host audio device which is a RealTek ALC890, I read Linux Mint is flaky with that chipset.
