New to file/printer sharing need some help

Last year in college, my roommate and I connect through a router to get access to the internet. Since we run through the same box, we were able to share printers. I just upgraded to WinXP Pro from WinXP Home and now I can't seem to share with anyone. I can see his shared folders, but he can't see mine. I'm thinking sharing folders and sharing printers are different but I think there's something blocking his access to my computer. Is some feature in WinXP Pro preventing people from seeing my computer on the network?

Edit: After messing around with my computer's options I some how set up an account. So now I have to log in when I get into my computer. How do I get rid of this? It's wierd because sometimes I get a blank grey screen like it's locked and I have to ctrl+alt+del to log off and get out of it. Wow, this OS version is confusing the bejeesus out of me.
