I just got my PlexWriter 8/4/32 CD-RW in the mail today and I couldn't be happier :)

However, having never used a burner before, I'm not really sure what to do next (besides install the drive, of course). It came bundled with software called PlextorManager 2000 which, after reading through the users guide, seems to have everything that I need to start burning CD's.

A while back however, I was reading about Nero and it seemed as though Nero was the best software available for burning audio CD's.

Should I stick with the PlextorManager 2000 software or is Nero the way to go? Is there any other software that I would want to get, like winamp, that would make creating audio CD's an easyer task?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any tips for a newbie (who already has plenty of coasters in the house) I would appreciate that as well!

TIA

well, you dont rip cd's with nero. im not familiar with ripping cd's because i just download music from napster, and then burn it. the software that came with your plextor is most likely ezcd4. thats an alright software to burn cd's, but i suggest nero. its quite easy to use. you just drag and drop the songs that you want burned, and itll burn them!

as for winamp, you use winamp to listen to mp3's and you can rip mp3's to wav, but thats a waste of time now. just use nero and walah you have instant mp3 burning. hope that helped. if you need more help you can mail me at nerd@hawaii.rr.com

well ez-cd creator is extremely easy to use, and the newer version does not require you to transfer the mp3 into a .wav file as the previous post suggests. As a first timer i suggest ez-cd creator although nero is a great program for all your needs.

Well, I don't think that the software that came with the burner has a program called ez-cd creator. From what I can tell Plextor Manager 2000 comes with the following applications: MVP 2000 (a music/video producer), Audio Capture 2000 and DiscDupe 2000. Audio Capture 2000 is what I think that I would be using.

Nero to burn.

I use CDDAE to rip (it tests the file for errors and what not), and then i use Razorlame w/the LAME encoder to make mp3s. It's a high quality, effective method. A little time consuming on my friggin PII :)o) but what i want is quality.

But to burn, Nero is definitely the way to go. I would keep a copy of CDRWin on hand as well if you want to do complicated shiat using CUE Sheets and what not.

But since you're new to burning, get Nero. The latest version always, of course.

The PlexWriter 8432 does come with EZ CD Creator, if the drive is new (manufactured around August 2000) it comes with version 4, which does the direct MP3-to-CD decoding.

I have the same drive and it came w/ Adaptec EZ CD Creator. But I use Nero instead. If you want to make audio CDs so u can play them on your car/home stereos you have to convert your MP3z to waves, I use Winamps built in plugin to do that. Then just copy the waves to the CD.
