New to AMD, please help.

Please help this is my first AMD build and not as familiar with AMD cpus.

Will the AMD Opteron run on any motherboard that has a socket 939 on it. Also not sure if I should get the Opteron 175 or go with the Athlon 64 X2 4400, are they the same?
I need a motherboard also that would be rock sold, I have no plans to OC it, and recommendations? This system would be used for video editing and making DVDs. I was thinking about getting ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 and a X2 4400.

And advice would surely be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help.

Yes, the Opteron should run in any Socket 939 motherboard (possibly after a BIOS update). If you have absolutely no interest in overclocking at all, then the 175 and the 4400+ should be identical in performance - they're both 2.2GHz chips with 1MB L2 cache per core. So I guess just go with whichever of the two is cheaper and/or easier to find.

I actually have a 170 and the ASRock board myself - so far at 2.6GHz, and as far as I can tell it's perfectly stable for everything I do. It's a great board if you're not looking for a huge overclock, although people will probably recommend others (nForce4-based) if you're not using an AGP video card.

Price is the major factor here, but still i go with Opteron 170 because you can overclock it if you change your mind and they are good overclockers.
