New to Abit and P4 3.4e - heat and memory help please!

I just put together a new system with an abit ic7 and P4 3.4e.

First, the thing seems to run very hot. The board did not come with the cpu bracket so I stole one
off of my old motherboard and wonder if I have it fastened correctly e.g. using corsair water-cooling I am running upwards of 57c!

Second, I currently am running 2X512 Hyperx 500mHz memory and wonder if the computer will run significantly better if I commit and extra 2X512 to it i.e. does hyperthreading and xpPro really take advantage of the extra memory?

thanks for your time,

jv😕

Water cooling, and still 57c... You bought the hotest cpu made today. Did you know that ? The new 90nm Athlon64 series are running very cool (on the other end of the scale) Did you buy that for a specific reason ? and what software are you running ? going over 1 gig only helps out in a small number of apps.

Ah,

found out that the IC7 has notorious problems with its temperature reporting system and commonly the CPU is shown to be running hot.

thanks,
jv
