New tires for my truck (possibly a general question)

I have a 2003 Chevy 1500 Ext cab.

Stock, it came with 235/75R16 tires. For whatever reason, this is not a popular size (translated into not in stock in many places around here). Importantly, I have a flat and am currently running on my full size spare. So, I basically want this tire fixed today and not a week from now.

It is very easy to get 245/70R16 or 255/70R16 tires. I know the differences. my question is fundamental. Is this safe? I don't know where to find info on this matter online.

Thank You.

EDIT: Sears web site is pretty good. They say that the following were original options on my truck:
OE: LT245/75R16/E
OE: LT245/75R16/C
OE: P245/75R16
OE: P235/75R16

Based on this, the 245/75R16s might be the better way to go, so long as I pay attention to my speed.

Also, unless you need LT tires, I think you can get passenger car rated tires. I think they are called "P". They would be lighter and more compliant.

I have a 99 of the same truck and run a 265/70/17.

No problems rubbbing at full lock ar anything, but I do have OEM wheels.

Are you buying 4 tires, or just buying to have a spare?

I have run an odd size spare (255/70/16) for weeks at a time, and never had any problems with running one odd size tire. there isnt a huge difference in the tire diameters, it just looks stupid. I also have an open differential, if I had a limited-slip rear end, or 4WD, I would be more concerned about it.

I ended up getting 245/70R16. So the diameter is slightly lesser than the old tires. I basically wanted something as close as I could get to the originals. Did not get the LT model since I don't do alot of hauling anymore. I did plenty while i was remodeling but till the next house it is not an issue. And it's not like I am hauling gravel anyways 🙂 Want to scare yourself? Toss a yard of crashed stone on your truck bed (half ton truck) 🙂 Ya, I was overloaded a bit but made it home.
