you guys might know this already from other threads, but I had a 125 shot NOS (nitrous oxide systems) kit hooked up in my ar today (2001 SS Z28,325hp 5.7L, 6-speed manual, auburn locker in the rear, 4.11 ring and pinion in the rear, add another 150HP from the Vortech 12psi serpentine supercharger= 475hp). My old dyno (HP measurement)readout was 474HP@6200 rpm, and 541 ft./lbs of torque@3500 rpm. 1/4 mile times were running in the mid-high 11.70's to low 11.80's. I just got back from the track about an hour ago after the NOS kit today (about 600hp now), now it's runninglow 11.0's, but god, does it spin now, even with fully blown slicks on it when the "juice hits". Some spinning was normal for first to second, and a "chrip" into third. Now, when the NOS hits, it burns 'em all the way into 5th as long as I spray it when I shift. Now I need to invest in a good 4-link rear from S&W...... I thought Valhalla1 might find this thread interesting... Yes, I am like Anand, I like fast cars too :) I like american made power though :)

No offense but NOS is for pussies. Not only do you run the risk of screwing up your engine faster than normal, its the only thing letting imports run anything lower than 12s, or possibly 11s. (Despite weighing like 1500 lbs each, they can't get under 11s without NOS) I'm a Ford fan but that is a nice car. Lose the NOS though. (I mean, how many cars could beat a mid-11 second Z28 anyway?)

Laughing guess is the best. A little juice here, and off you go. I know a guy that put juice on a everyday car and he is a little crazy. Sometimes he is a little trigger happy, he squeeze it on a long block during the rain.

Sorry I'm gonna have to disagree with you here RB. NOS shouldnt be any more dangerous when setup properly than a forced induction setup :) Its a damn nice addition too when you have forced induction! Sounds like you've got it running pretty well cablegod! I'm more into 4cyl american made turbo dodge cars but still, nice times! Whats your speed at the traps?

Hmm. So I suppose you have a rollcage in there now? Or is that only when you break into the 10s? Sounds like a pretty quick car.

But one question. How can it be a SS and a Z28 at the same time? I thought that they were two seperate trim lines. At least that's the way Chevy's website makes it look. (edit: hmm. Maybe I'm wrong here. Looks like I've learned my new thing for today at 7am!)

Ask the funny cars what the funny juice is for. I think that John Force would have a thing or two to say about NO2 being for pussies.

Yea, well, it's still nitro. Same basic sort of principle applies. Kinda. Sorta. If you look at it while standing on the cieling.

There are still quick drag cars that have blue bottles in them.

Or if your brain farts at 7am, after 5 hours of sleep. Why on earth did I agree to get up so early??

NOS isn't for pussies, because a pussy car doesn't do the 1/4 in 11 seconds. And no japanesse import with a mere nitro kit will be running that anyway...as you can see his car is fast as hell even without it; this is just icing on the cake.

Cablegod Thats a damn sweet ride you have; I prey your engine is nice to you in the future :) You do know that if a cop pulls you over and sees the setup there won't be any warnings for ya!

RB: No comment, your handle says it all.

Perry: A SS is actually a Z28 with the $3400 SS performance/appearance package option. No roll cage. This thing is my daily driver. I didn't drop the dough to drive it once in a while. The bottle's not blue. It's yellow, from Top Gun Nitrous Systems.

Soybomb: Before NOS, trap speed was in the high 120's/low 130's. Last night it picked up about 10, in the high 130's to mid 140's. Too much spinning...

Skoorb: It will be nice to me with the second stage fuel system that was also installed to feed the NOS fuel soleniod alone. It's activated 1/2 a second before the squeeze kicks in.

RB-

I used to think that too... then my uncle took me for a ride in his juiced 69 Camaro. it slams you back in your seat.

Cable-

Dont you have to get a roll cage now that your down into the 11's?

Damn.. I'm sure the Veilside Skyline runs below 10s 1/4 miles without NOS. :)

And yes, that is an import. :D

I'm amazed that you can manage that beast as a daily driver. Then again, considering that it's a supercharger and not a turbo, it won't have that pesky on/off boost curve, and it looks as though it has enough displacement to give a relatively flat power curve. One of those cars where you can dump the clutch at idle and the car will creep rather than stall. ;) Beautiful machine, I appreciate that it must have taken a lot of time, effort, and money, but I have to ask, how does it handle? This is personal preferance, but I'd take an MGB, a Morgan Plus 8, or an old Porsche 356 before that Camaro just because I'd rather average 80 through a "25 mph" hairpin than have a straight lie rocket. Personal preferance though, and I still have to say that you have one very nice ride.

cablegod: Are you running 600rwhp on stock internals?

RB: Its one thing having a z28 running 11's, but its another thing having a 1.6/1.8 litre engine running 11's.
I respect anything thats fast, but having a tiny little engine output 400-600 hp is just amazing in my book.
As for your nos comment, imports use it mainly cuz of the large turbo they have hooked up. You do know that large turbos have tons of lag but wicked top-end, that why nos is used, to spool up the turbo in low rpm's. Its not for pussies, its just that a large turbo and nos really compliment each other, just like an egt and a/f guage.

As far as NOS goes, if your engine can handle it, you deserve to use it! :)

I was told last night not to come back until I got 5-point harness belts. Their rule is 10's = roll cage.

genocide: too much: Car was $35,500 delivered, vortech blower was another $4500 and $1000 install, NOS kit was $450 with a $225 install (bought all aftermarjet performance from a local pro shop and had them install)

zenmervolt: it handles well enough for my taste :)

shabby: all internal (crank,rods,pistons-forged from the factory-heads(did do a valve job) are stock)We put some FelPro copper head gaskets in for a better seal and to make them blow proof under that pressure)

$35k!!! Ouch!
Still, I'm sure it's worth every penny, damn nice ride. The only reason I have a shred of respect for Chevy cars ;)

I'll be running high 14's for what you spent on the blower + install! ;)

Yea, it was expensive, but hey, you only live once, and I'm not married and have no kids. I ordered mine fully loaded with every option by the way.

Didn't you say you were paying only $400/month on financing? How long is that like a decade? :)

It is a sweet car...I'm rather jealous because in Canada $400 gets you a used tonka truck.

Where'd you get that $400/mo from? Mine run in the $700/mo range. I would take the $400 any day though.

<< you only live once >>

I hear ya! It was hard for me to scrape up the money for my real-life dream car (so to speak :)), so I know where you're coming from. It's really worth it though if you enjoy it enough.

cablegod : nice. I've seen far too much fbody and domestic car bashing in this forum. its about time we have an fbody daily driver that kills any of these wussies' imports.

I will never, ever drive an import. but I dont want to start an import/domestic battle
