New Thief trailer leaked!

Sooo, no Stephen Russell is all I got out of that trailer, so a horrible reveal. Everything else looks like lame action stealth nonsense, but that's to be expected from a trailer.

That last scene isn't very stealthy, haha. But yeah, not much can be gathered from a trailer really so I won't write it off just yet. 😉

I'm hoping he'll be in the final product. He'd better be.

Man thief. What made thief and deus ex was one man who had a vision, so I'm not going to think this is nirvana. Know that dude? heh. 🙂
In any case I look forward to it. PC games with a bit of strategy always welcome.

Decidedly meh.

If there is any focus on killing people AT ALL, I have no interest. That was what made Thief, Thief.

It's funny but because this game is not on Kickstarter, I assume it's going to be like what they did to Hitman and Splinter Cell.

It's not on kickstarter because it's not an indie project. It's being published by Edios who did the Hitman and Dues Ex remakes. Could be ok, but it will most likely be dumbed down to some degree to cater to the console market.

My point exactly. If it was on Kickstarter I'd expect it to be very similar to the old stealth based Thief, but because it's not I'm expecting just another action game.

The Eidos forum is entirely Russell backlash, with a very robotic EM community manager replying copy pasta corporate damage control to complaints. Probably the last straw for me, not that I had any real confidence before hand, but I figured Garrett's voice was the easiest choice for EM to not screw up. Apparently some sort of gameplay will be released in the next few days, I imagine if they play it right most people will forget about Russell, because let's face it, dangle something shiny in front of most gamers and they'll forget sodomy. Unfortunately, I predict pre orders from most of those complaining today. :|

:Edit: Looks like most of the forum discussion is being deleted, stay classy EM.

:Edit+: Oooh, now one of my posts was deleted and I received an infraction, how fun.

Wow, it's sad to hear that they're deleting posts from their fanbase. lol

So when gameplay vids come out showing health regen, object highlighting, a cover system, etc, if anyone complains they can just remove the post. Perfect! That way the newbies to the series (who are the bigger market right?) don't see all that.. 🙂

Thief 1/2 are my all time fave games to this day, but the problem is that no matter how true they try and remain to the original games, what you say about consolization is still going to happen. Let's face it, it WILL be dumbed down it's just a question of how much.

If I'm honest I think the best I'm hoping for at this stage is something along the lines of Dishonored mixed with Deus Ex Human Revolution, hopefully there will be some catering to the PC crowd with features to disable all the obnoxious console shit so it might come out enjoyable with enough tweaks. I'm almost completely certain it wont be the great PC games that the original titles are, and it being a reboot we can be sure to see them take liberties with the direction of the game as a whole.

Shit trailer.

Extraordinarily generic, showed next to nothing, built no tension, virtually nothing of the world or environment shown.

I'm personally of the opinion I'd rather have nothing than forced, generic trailers that show nothing of the gameplay.

I'll hold judgement of the actual gameplay until something is released actually showing the game in action. But as far as trailers go, awful.

New article at IGN that mentions some things nobody wants to hear that was a fan of the old pre-Deadly Shadows.

Apparently combat will be a Fallout VATS-like thing, with you mousing over vulnerable areas for attacks. The writer mentions 'its like a quick time event'. Ugh, fail.

Today’s player is different, and so are their expectations. A game often has to appeal to the widest possible audience. The original Thief series was in many ways an uncompromising experience – a hardcore stealth title – that made few concessions to accessibility. It was purposefully arcane, ambiguous, difficult.

Dumbed down casual Thief 4 incoming?

Yep, as expected. Seems Kickstarter games are the only real place left for classic gameplay.

Dear God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit I pray it won't be like you say. I pray it will be entertaining and fun.

Read the article, it sounds exactly like that. RPS has a preview now as well, so I assume there will be others today if not already.

The forced third person stuff is a deal breaker for me though, so all of the other annoying details are just piling up as background noise. Anyway, a certified pass from me unless this stuff is made optional.

I haven't played Dishonored yet, but the Dues Ex remake was ok. I honestly just wish they would create new franchises instead of slapping and old title onto what's basically a new game in most cases. However, that trend is not likely to stop as there's a whole lot of $$ in it for them and I recognize that.

I just started Dishonored yesterday and made it like 30 minutes in before I had to go, but it doesn't seem awful. I have to put a bit more time in it to tell, but we'll see.

And sequels / remakes offer too much established fanbase to pass up for most companies. Some have done a great job reinventing the titles (Fallout 3) but I think most are just a "hey remember that old game you loved, buy this one too!" strategy.
