I need to write a paper on new a technology (preferable computers or Information Technology). The new technology should replace or improve an older technology.
Any suggestions?

What level of education is this for?

RFID seems pretty interesting. I saw some report on CNET (can't find it now) recently where a Korean company had developed RFID paper. That opens up things like anti-counterfeit measures for tickets to sporting/entertainment events, ensuring memos on corporate/goverment letterhead is genuine, etc. Also, many casinos are starting to use RFID's in chips to prevent cheating and fake chips, and also to have real-time info on wins/losses at the tables.

It's a pervasive enough technology that you could find some application in an area that interests you - which always makes writing papers easier.

Good luck! Don't be in too much a rush to join the real world. There's less co-eds out here in IT (or maybe you're one youself. In that case - welcome!).

Rational drug design. Drugs were pretty much just guesswork until the last few years.

RFID, wireless all relate to the mobile user. We're just startting a 2 year RFID project that will transform how we do business both with our customers and our staff.

Well, that's one application... but RFID itself it simply a device that sends out a unique wireless "fingerprint". It's potential goes well beyond mobile computing.

Excellent choice. I couldn't have thought of a better one. RFID has a future in tracking/shipping of items and security/authentication of documents.

What are you using to print/encode?

How about looking at doing the paper from a different angle.........

What about writing a paper on making fire or building a wheel etc from the perspective of never having done this before and living in a cave.

Or a bit more modern - casting steel etc etc

We're buying our tags from a manufacturer, about 975,000 this year and then 150,000 annually thereafter. Tags are ISO 15963 at 13.56 mhz. Reader pad and software programs the tag based on the unique id of each item. Because we need to interopeate with other organizations, we also will continue to use bar codes until they catch up with us.

Using RFID for customer self service, inventory tracking and maintenance and automated check-in..
