They made a post in the forums about it also

http://www.readyresponse.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1899

"Howdy all,

We've sent a mail out about this, but the short story is basically that some people have been breaking the 3-clients-per-user limit in order to validate more links. This is unnecessary and does not help the project at all.

As such, we have released a "fixed" client ( http://www.readyresponse.org/update_dlv.php ) which we recommend everyone to upgrade to, and we have also implemented a "link cap" - which ensures that even if someone runs 50 clients....only the first 9000 links they validate will count (all links/results after that are not counted in the stats).

The 3 client limit is there for very good reasons. In time the limit will be removed - but for now there is no need for people to be running more than 3 on this project - for the folllowing reasons:

1) This is a project about validating links from multiple locations. The interesting part of the project is finding out whether or not a link is down/404 from hundreds of different internet connections, isp's, countries, etc. In the future this will become even more interesting (from dlv 2.0 onwards). However, for the time being it is unncessary for you to run 20 clients or however many you run...because all you are doing is providing us with millions of results from one internet connection. We need results from multiple internet connections - and we are trying to avoid you doing unnecessary work!!

2) Running lots of clients means that you will validate the whole link db multiple times a day. For the reasons listed in 1) this is unnecessary, and not useful to the project. You are just making your PC do extra work.

3) The 1.9 client is not designed to be run as lots of instances on the same PC. I suspect this could actually taint the results/links that you are validating and cause the clients to become confused....which is not helpful to you or the project.

4) It puts extra unnecessary load on our server. You were running the DLV 1.8 client and you saw how bad the load was? It was almost impossible to even connect to our server to do anything. When you break the client limit, you are helping to make that problem worse. In time the client limit will be increased.

5) It's not about how many clients you can run....it's about how well your team does. If your team has more members/support, they will continue to do well.

Thanks,

Wang"

The team is now 13th and with take 12th with the next update or so. After that ARS is the team ahead of us. I don't know if we will catch them since they are showing the same numbers of members we are but it would be nice if we could since that would help us catch them in the standings at the DC vault.

Not sure how ofter they update their stats but I've checked them twice today and the numbers have been higher for you both times . So it looks like you are getting credit now.

They just released the new Mac client today. You can get it here.

In other news, we've passed Ars Technica to take the 11 spot in the team standings. :D

yeah I just got this in my email.
"Version 1.3 of the Red Library DLV client for Mac has been released! This version contains updates for all the recent changes to the DLV project. Thank you to Macdefender for all his hard work on the client!

A new release of v1.9 for Windows is also available, and fixes a few issues with DHCP which may have been causing users to incorrectly receive the "You can only run 3 clients..." message"

Abel007 welcome to the team. It only took a couple of seconds for my email to come when I signed up. If you don't get it soon check your spam folder.

Still no e-mail. I did a password recovery thing but still nothing as of yet. Maybe something is up right now. I'll try again later.

I am still having problems with this client. I have three computers running the client. Each client should generate approximately 2800 links per day if set to the fastest settings. If I shut down the client and restart it then it will run fine for awhile. Then it will stop reporting results. It will still continue to check the links though. I have fired off a couple of emails for help.

Dalephi, I haven't had a problem like yours, but the other day i did notice that two of my clients got stuck in the middle of verifying links. A restart of the client fixed that problem. Hopefully your problem will get fixed soon.

I noticed today that we got a new member. Welcome to the team strates2!

We have passed Northern Lights UK and taken the 10th place spot in the stats. We should be moving into 9th place either today or tomorrow. However, that is about as high in the stats that we are going to be able to reach with our current member count. The top 8 teams all have 12+ members and becuase of the client cap of 3, we'll have a hard time catching any of them. We NEED more members.

I am in...although the email went to my bulk folder at my yahoo email account...so those of you using yahoo email...you might want to check the bulk folder as it willmost likely be there.

I will see how the client behaves, then set it up on another two comps over the next day or so...

Just in case anyone was wondering about the credit of 404 links here is a response to an email I sent to the project.

Hello,

Thank you for your email!

The 404's reported by clients are validated by our server every 3 days. Bad links will only officially show up on the statistics once they have been:

a) Validated by the server at least twice
b) Down for 1 week+

We give each link 1 week before we delete it (to ensure that the problem is not just a temporary connection issue). If the link is still down, then we delete the link and credit the client(s) who reported the link as 404.

The 404 database was validated and cleared yesterday - so if your 404's were successfully verified, you should see them on your statistics today: http://stats.readyresponse.org

If you have any further questions, please let us know,
