tomorrow evening I am getting my first tattoo finally. Getting a bald eagle using its talons to tear through the skin, revealing the flag beneath it. Going to go on my back, on my right shoulder.

anyone get a tattoo there? how exactly does it feel? Sadly, I think there is a lot of outlining, which I heard is the more painful part of the tattoo process.

after it's done, I'll see if the artist can take a pic with my phone for me, and I'll upload it here. Will be up late tomorrow night to care for it, since I am getting it at 7, and once its done will have to wait to take off the bandage.

UPDATE:
well, its done and over with. Proud to say it never really hurt, but sure as hell never felt good either. ;)

and a photo, like I promised. ;)

I apologize for the blurriness. This was a self-taken shot, so I kind of had to make do with what I got from the phone.

I got one a few months ago on my upper right arm.

It hurts but after awhile you just kinda get numb to the pain.

I think the wiping was worse than anything else, when the artist basically wipes off the excess ink and rubbing right on the part he just tattooed.

Do not drink before getting a tattoo. It thins the blood and leads to profuse bleeding and/or terrible end results. That being said, the shoulder is highly non-painful. You'll be ok. Still deciding on my next one.

QFT, plus a lot of the places I checked into before getting mine had signs saying they'd refuse anyone that's been drinking.

I got a tattoo on my right shoulder blade that says "Younger Brother" in japanese and it didn't hurt at all. I just sat in a chair turned backwards and propped my arms on the back of the chair, nothing too bad. Just talk to the artist and try to keep your mind off of it.

Wow, that is one hell of a cliche tattoo.

would you rather me get a tribal pattern?

seriously, why do people say this is cliche? Is it cliche to have strong patriotic beliefs and I'd like a tattoo that represents it, and not represent some other interest I have that I will not like when I am 50?

just give me some ideas if you think there is something better.

and I also thought of exactly what I wanted, BEFORE ever seeing something like it. I was just going to ask for someone to custom draw it, but then I discovered one that fits my idea already exists.

hell, I really don't. I don't plan on changing my mind at all. I just find it kind of funny that I thought of it, didn't know it existed, and then find a really awesome piece of flash art already made.
great minds think alike, apparently?

I guess it's not really that cliche, and I certainly understand the patriotic thing. I always find myself inadvertently rolling my eyes and making sarcastic comments whenever I see overt American patriotism. For some (unacceptable) reason it irks me, and then I realise that my first tattoo will certainly be something patriotic to my own country. About half of my friends have some sort of Kiwi or Silver Fern tatt.

Assuming the artist can pull it off, your idea should actually look pretty badass.

I sure hope it says what you think it says...

Isn't the idea more or less to show others your beliefs?

Why does it have to be like that? My tattoos aren't about my beliefs... I got them for specific reasons, sure... but it wasn't about some creed or telling the world who I am. When someone asks, I'll tell them what they mean to me but I'm not a billboard for my ethos.

Please, please do NOT get a tribal tat, its a fashion tattoo and its out of fashion now.

An advice will be to get something timeless, like a dragon or phoenix..those never go out of style..

I've wanted a tattoo for a while now. Once my army process gets underway, I'll look into it more.

Who cares what everyone else thinks?
