Despite all the speculation, they never released a newer version of nexus 10. Maybe there wont be another 7 or 8 inch nexus either. Google not wanting to compete with Samsung to keep them happy

I don't understand why somebody would want a 7" tablet to consume media. A 10" screen is far far better for that. Portability, battery life, yes. Media? No.

I bought a Surface RT 64 to replace my also-aging Asus TF101. I regret nothing. It's a much better device, despite running a Tegra 3. I only got it because it was on sale, and now it's on sale even further, $249 at Best Buy as of yesterday.

I don't know if a Surface 2 is worth $200+ more, though.

I bought a nexus 7 v2 a few months ago, which i'm very happy with. But this looks interesting. windows 8.1 tab for $199

f you think Windows tablets are too darn expensive, Toshiba wants a word with you. The company's latest tablets, called Encore 2, run full Windows 8.1 and start at just $199.

For that price, you get an 8-inch tablet with 1,280 x 800 resolution and a quad-core processor. It's powered by a quad-core Atom chip with 1GB of RAM, and there's 32GB of storage, which you can augment with a microSD card. Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours, and Toshiba offers a 10-inch version with almost exactly the same specs for $269.

dell venue 8 pro has been on sale for below $200 (as low as $127 via dell university)

as a windows machine that does everything, sure

as a media consumption tablet (videos, music, internet browsing, game apps...), windows isn't as fine tuned as android...

I don't know why someone would want a tablet bigger than about 8-9" instead of just getting an ultrabook. /s

My 2013 N7 is perfect for a mobile media device. I can stick it in my jeans pocket, mount it on my dash for GPS, watch movies while i'm in line or dropping the kids off at the pool, etc. etc... All of those things become more difficult to do, on the go, the further pas 8" you go. I mean, if I want to show someone a web page or pictures from (insert cloud based picture location) it's easy and more than big enough to see from across a table/desk. A full size tablet is just awkward to lug around everywhere... I know because my gf puts her iPad in her purse sometimes and 90% of the time we use the N7 instead when we're out and about.

I have a 110" PJ for movies when I want the cinematic experience at home. The N7 is perfectly fine for keeping me entertained otherwise.

I have a Note 3. It excels far more at all those things you just mentioned, including easier to fit in a pocket than a 7-8" device.

I also have an Ultrabook, but it's 15.6. Replaced my desktop, but it's really thin and light and so, easier to take places.

If I'm going to be sitting somewhere long enough to watch a movie, I'm going to bring my Surface.

The "smaller than 10 inch" device doesn't make sense for me, or to me.

Cool story, bro.

To each their own. Just because YOU can't understand the appeal to someone else doesn't make any of the devices a poor choice. The only legitimate reason to bash one of these devices is because a feature/function is not up to par or is not useful. Hating on the dimensions is asinine because it's a preference preference. I'd never buy a Note because it's obnoxiously sized for a phone, imo. But i'm not going to tell someone to buy it for that reason.

Update: ended up getting the iPad Mini Retina. I wanted to try T-Mobile and for $20 a month plus tax, why not?

I wasn't to worried about the higher price for ipad, I do not spend money on many things. (Unless you count investing in mutual funds)

So far I am in love with iOS, my Mom has an iPhone with no texting plan but didn't want to install any apps, iMessaging with the iPad is pretty cool for me to contact her. Before I would use the Facebook IM.

All the apps I use to play with on my Asus tablet and my phone seem more "polished" on iOS.

I am not an Apple fan by any means but pretty happy with the purchase. Also the battery life on this little thing is amazing.

Great purchase, iOS on the A7 is butter smooth in comparison to android.

Android definitely has it's merits but as user interface goes the only thing that even comes close is android on a flagship S800 device, even then it's still a world away.

I moved from a 4S on iOS 6 to a SGS4 on Jelly bean (rooted w custom rom) to a 5s on iOS 7 and I'm so glad I'm back on iOS. Messaging is leagues better and it's nice that my apps don't randomly crash on a daily basis.

I never said it was a poor choice for anybody but myself.

I simply said I couldn't understand using such a small device for media consumption.

Studies show that iOS apps crash more than Android.

They just don't come with a message to that effect.
