Hello,

I am finally getting to build my new system.
Your comments are welcome and advice requested.
I am not a heavy gamer or O/C. I like to listen and burn CDs getting all types of music.
My wife stores slides and other prints. We also do the general stuff and some games.
I do some CAD work also.
I would like your thoughts on video and sound card choices as well as comments on the system in general. Also need to know if the Asus A7M is a VIA 266 chipset.
So here goes: Oh this is a SCSI system. I have been a good boy -- Lately!!
AMD 1.2 266 CPU
Asus A7M MoBo
Addtronics WTX 8500 case
Enermax 451 p/s
Plextor 12/10/32s CD-RW
Plextor CD-Rom 40 (PlexMax)
256 DDR memory
SBL Platinum 5.1 or Santa Cruz Sound card
Radeon DDR 64 video card
Tekram 390 U3W SCSI card
Sony GDM F520 21" monitor
2 IBM 36gig LVD drives
Video Logic Sirroco Speakers
M/S optical mouse and elite keyboard
3Com eth.10/100 card
Epson 1520 printer
Win2k o/s

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a good system if you have money to blow. If not you could go for something a little more modest. If you have the money that is one sweet rig!

To be quite honest, you probably have no need for a scsi system as it doesnt seem like you will be doing much multi read/write activities. I would put the money in something else...possibly more storage, get a 16x writer, dont get a radeon..get a geforce2 ultra or a geforce 3 when they come out, better speakers like the ones anand just reviewed. A few things like that would be better for your money imo.

drop the scsi, get ibm gxp's with raid 0 (will save bunches o money), get dvd instead of that stupid cd drive (A panasonic 16x is only 75), upgrade the cd-rw to a 16x, how bout a cheap zip dive (65 bucks)and get some nice speakers
