I'm replacing my old P3-733Cu system. It's been a good one,but hey,it's seen better days.Things have changed a lot and I've been racking my brain learning all the new hardware. This is what I've come up with so far.
A64 3200+ Venice
Asus A8n-e
Sapphire x850xt
2gb Patriot 2-3-2-5 or Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6
WD 250gb 8 or 16mb Sata2(Is there any real difference?)
Antec Sonata2 w/Antec SP2.0 450wattPSU
NEC3550A burner w/updated firmware
Windoz XP Pro

I'll probably OC the CPU and Ram after I get some better cooling, but I'll leave it alone for now.....whatdaya think?

Not a bad build. Budget doesn't really leave you much room to play in at a guess.

The 16mb WD drive is a later generation, and as such it's the faster model. The SATA2 bit is conincidental to that, the interface doesn't make any real difference but the newer (faster) drives have the newer interface.

Get the cheapest budget RAM you can find rather than the patriot stuff, you might be able to save enough to upgrade the graphics card or the CPU to the next model up, which will be a much greater improvement.
