Upon completion of system build, we powered on to test for post. System posted, no problems. Liteon 52x CD-RW was installed on the same IDE cable as the HDD, but system wouldn't post. I'm assuming it's because the CD-RW was connected to the master end of the cable and the HDD was connected to the slave end. I didn't change either jumpers thinking it wouldn't make a difference. The cable was too short to accommodate any other set up.
We took an old IDE cable from the old machine and connected the CD-RW. The system would take ages to post, and sometimes simply cycled. Once in a while the system would post, and with XP in the drive, it would start installing the setup files, but would never get past the first few files before restarting.
We put in an old CD-ROM, connected it with the old IDE cable, and managed to post successfully and install XP successfully.
My question to you is: Why was this occurring? Was it because the old IDE cable was too slow for the new CD-RW, or because the CD-RW might be fuxored?
Very odd...
