New system worked, now won't post

Hello all,

I've searched through the support forums but couldn't find anything to resolve my issue, so I apologize if this is a dupe.

I upgrade/built a new system for someone with the following specs:
Epox 8HDAI Pro MoBo
AMD Sempron 2800
Crucial DDR 400 512MB
PNY FX5200 256MB AGP8x Vid Card
400W Power Supply

Optical and hard drives are resused.

Assembled the system, started up fine, installed Windows got everything updated, drivers installed, etc. Worked for about two days. Then, went to fire it up the other morning and it wouldn't post. After trouble shooting, RMAed the MoBo. Got the new one yesterday. Put everything together, it started up fine, worked. Went to turn it on this morning, won't post.

Went through the following:
Took the board out of the case, tried it with just the processor, vid card and RAM. Nothing. No beeps, just sits on the FF code. Tried a different stick of RAM as well as a different video card. Nothing. Tried a different power supply. Nothing. Reseated the processor and heat sink. Reset the CMOS. Nothing. Went through all of these things one by one.

Only thing I can figure is the board is bad again. Now if that's the case, fine, I'll RMA it, but my bigger concern is that something is causing the boards to go bad. Otherwise, why would it work a day or two and then die?

Any help is much appreciated as this is driving me insane.

Thanks.

Was it the same power supply being used with both boards? When you get the next board I would use a different one and see what happens.

Or at least watch the voltages on it closely.

Yes, the same power supply was being used.

In both cases, all the components were identical. Could the power supply be the culprit?

I did later try a different power supply, but I'm figuring by that point the board may have been fried.

The supply did have teh 20+4 connector while the board only had a 20-pin connector. From what I've found, this shouldn't be an issue, but who knows.

Maybe I'll just order a new power supply if I have to get a new board and see if that solves the problem.

The power supply that came in the Apevia case... I believe it says Turbolink 420W on the side.

The other power supply I tried was one out of my case... I know it's 350W, not sure on the make.

Checked the power supply this afternoon with a volt meter and it was registering significantly low... as much as 30% on the voltages. After playing with it for a while it went up to within about a minus 5-10% window of what the voltages should be.

My current plan of attack is to get a new board, as well as a new power supply, unless anyone has any advice.

Thanks for the reply.
