New system won't POST

Specs:
DFI LanParty UT NF4-Ultra D
Athlon 3200+ Winchester
500W Fortron PSU with 24-pin ATX
1GB Crucial Ballistix
Leadtek 6600GT PCI-E
2 SATA HDD's
3 optical drives
1 floppy drive

Everything is connected and I don't see anything missing. The system diagnostic lights come on and only get up to 3 showing that everything has power. It will not get to the 4th red light showing system start up. The RAM and other power amber lights are lite so they must be getting power.

The power LED on the front of the case blinks and the monitor will not come on showing a signal. I checked and the jumpers are in normal mode, NOT SLI.

Any ideas?

wow, thats pretty weird... all quality components.
Try booting up with just the neccesary components (disconnect optical, floppy and 1 hdd)

well I tried the clear CMOS jumper and rebooted. Now I actually have something on the screen and was able to get into the BIOS. On the POST screen I was told to switch my DIMMS to rows 2&4 for dual channel so I did that. It still doesn't seem to be wroking correctly though. Sometimes it doens't want to go past its logo screen.

I also know my HDD needs reformatted b/c its off my old system.

i somehow got it to get ready to boot from the XP cd but it just stopped and didn't go into the setup. It's not being consistent with what its doing as it will freeze on the logo screen then the next time it will go through the POST and freeze.

Have you updated your BIOS?
What voltage are your RAMs running at? You may need to up the voltage for the RAMs.
Try installing XP with only 1 stick of RAM in slot #2 (the orange slot closest to the edge of the mobo).
Another thing you can try is go in the BIOS -> PC HEALTH STATUS -> CPUFan Fully on if CPU Temp and change the value to 25. This will get the CPU fan running at full speed. I did this and finally got XP to install.
The DFI Ultra-D might be a bitch to get it up and running, but once you do it'll run like a champ.

Make sure your ram is at least at 2.7v and make sure all your power connectors to the mb are attached (there are 3 of them).

Make sure you update your bios & plug all 4 mobo connectors in.
Did you make sure your cd is 1st in the boot order ?

I don't have an extra floppy power cable to plug into the motherboard. So at most I can only plug in 3 out of 4. I think it might be a BIOS problem because it seems like everytime it wants to work it says there was a checksum error and it updates the DMI pool then it seems like it wants to work. Its really incosistent.

Also, how do I tell which BIOS I have on there now? Any way around the 4 power connectors on the board?

Any other ideas? Think it might just be a bad board?

Thanks for the info, here's whats up now though just in case.

I tried to flash with the latest BIOS but it basically quit 1/4 of the way through. Somehow it rebooted and I was able to update the BIOS successfully. I also changed my memory voltage to 2.7. Now it at least got me to the installing WinXP point.
I have a few more questions..

Do you think if XP installs this board will be fine?
What makes these boards so hard to setup?
Where can I see which version BIOS I have?

Thanks again

you need to "load optimised" defaults in BIOS. that will solve your issues.

oh and you want no red led lights on after BIOS. having more than 1 means theres an issue somewhere

ok so once POSTed then there should be no red lights?

I finally got winXP installed and ran a demo of Pariah and everything seemed to be alright. Hopefully I can enjoy this now. I'll have to check the red lights as well. If any are on, is there anything that can be done to address the problem?

no once windows or you OS loads all LEDS go away.

I still highly suggest you load optimised defualts in BIOS and then mess with your ram settings. ITs the only way I can get mine to boot 😉

so far so good i guess. i have no idea what the problem was during setup, i thought the board was dead a few times.

for those that have this board, has it been stable for you? i hope there aren't any more problems ahead.

To find out what version of the bios you have, you need to turn off the DFI splash screen (its at the very bottom of one of the top three choices on the left in the bios) and then you will be able to see it in the lower left of the screen.

From the first few posts it sounds like a short. take the mobo out of the case & sit it on a cardboard box & run it from there to see if that is indeed the problem. My computer was doing the exact same thing until I did this.

Could be, I don't know why it would seem to be working fine now though. I'll keep that in mind though. Thanks
