Hi, new to anandtech and new to building as this is my first build. I've run across a little problem here and maybe one of you guys has some advice for me. For some reason this thing won't pick up any cd-rom or cdrw on POST. Here's what I've gone though and I'm fairly stumped.

Original setup was WD Se 80gig jumpered as master on primary ide channel and the cd/dvd-rom out of my old gateway jumpered as master on my secondary ide channel. Picks up the hdd and says the secondary master failed.

Switched the cd-rom out in favor of the memorex 40x 24x 40x out of my old comp. Still on secondary ide and jumpered as master. Same thing happens.

Switched out the round cable I was using for the secondary ide in place of a regular ribon cable. Same thing.

Both drives on primary ide channel using ribbon cable. Both jumpered as master (oops) and cdrw accidentaly conected as master. Set up like that the cdrw showed up but the hdd didn't.

Put both drives on the primary ide channel using ribbon cable. Hdd jumpered as master, cdrw jumpered as slave. Same thing.

So, If I'm looking at things right my secondary ide channel looks like it's screwed and my cdrw won't show up unless it's connected and jumpered as master. So... any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

All Caviar drives have a jumper block (J8) located between the 40-pin IDE connector and the power connector. These jumpers select the physical detection options on the hard drive. All Caviar drives are factory set for Cable Select installation.

more there and pics

hope this helps
