I'm building a new system based on a Gigabyte HKNXP and Intel 2.6 Ghz and I get the BIOS screens but Can't get the Windows LOGO. I think I have the blue screen of death, it says Windows has terminated the system to prevent a problem, check your system for viruses...

My question is, is it possible my CPU is bad? If I can go through the BIOS screens the CPU must be good, no?

Yes, your CPU is probably OK.

As suggested by Ionizer86 run Memtest to test your RAM.

Also, use 2.5-3-3-8 @ 2.7 volts for the memory timings & voltage, if you aren't making headway. The chipset is known for generally not liking, say, 2-2-2 timings.

By the way... you didn't just dump your hard drive into the new system and hope WinXP would absorb the change in platform, right? Generally doesn't work ;)

Yeah that's exactly what I did, I transferred my hard drive from my old computer to my new computer - Doh!. I was able to boot up from floppy and do PC-Dos commands so obviously my CPU is OK. I guess I'll have to buy a new copy of Win-XP and do a fresh install. Thanks for all your help gang.

you can jsut move over your XP to the new computer.
I think you'll have to call microsoft so that you can reregister it under your new machine.

BTW, yes, I've had a bad processor before. My PC kept BSODing every 5 minutes or so until I put my old CPU back in. I RMA'd it, and it's all good now.
