New system with MSI Neo2 Platinum board not recognizing SATA drive

I just created a system as follows:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (7025) board
Athon 64 3000+
Seagate 160GB SATA Hard drive
1GB Corsair value ram
Sapphire 9600XT 256MB

I have attempted to load the O/S multiple times as follows:
- Not pushing F6 at all for special drives
- F6 -> Nvidia storage (only)
- F6 -> Nvidia raid (only)
- F6 -> Nvidia storage then Nvidia Raid
- F6 -> Nvidea raid then Nvidia storage

In every case, the system ultimately tells me that no hard drive is found, press F3 to abort

I have put the hard drive in another system, to see if it is at least recognized (it is.)

I'd update the bios, but the MSI site warns not to flash the bios from a floppy drive (which is my only accessible drive) So I'm at a loss of how to resolve this.

I see similar problems posted, but nothing that answers this.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

hmm i just installed a MSI neo2 plat and didnt have to use a driver. Try installing it on the lower SATA controller and not the one to the left of the CPU

Good suggestion.

The disk was not needed to install the single SATA drive.

I also moved to the other set of SATA controllers (and swapped the SATA cable just in case.)

Everything went fine after that, so either the cable or the one set of SATA controllers was bad.

Now if only I could get the audio working....
