New system will not post - paypal $15 reward for fix

Ok, here's the deal.

Brand new case (enlight w/ 340w supply), brand new mobo (Asus A7V333), Crucial 256 PC2700 DIMM, Radeon 7500.

System will not send any video out to monitor.

Unhooked EVERYTHING except power to the board, CPU, video, and RAM. Nothing.

Swapped out video cards (geforce 2 mx). Nothing.

All motherboard settings are default.

Swapped in ram that I know works. Nothing.

The only thing I can think of is that the CPU is bad or the motherboard is bad. I think this is unlikely, though, because both were factory sealed, brand new.

I've put over 20 computers together from scratch and have never had this kind of problem.

If anybody out there can help me fix this, I will paypal them $15 immediately.

Are you sure the CMOS reset jumper is in the right place?

Do you get ANYTHING? Fans, beeps, shocks, anything at all?

make sure you dont have a stand off in the wrong spot, grounding the MOBO to the case
also some boards asre shipped with the COMS jumper in the reset position-- like workin said

Thanks guys, I am going to give these a shot.

Yes, the fans are working, the board is getting power. The HD and FDD are all starting up properly upon boot, it just won't POST.

I will stick by my word and paypal as soon as I find out what this is.

try replacing the CMOS battery -- same thing happened to my roomies computer....

most likely the mobo is bad...ive built 6 p4 systems in the past month or two and have had to rma two mobos....if youve done everything right (everything is seated correctly etc..) then just go rma it right away

you're not gonna like this answer.. I built a machine based on the VIA 694x chipset (ECS P6V....A+) with a Celeron (pre-tested) and some pre-tested SDRAM. Video card was/is the Radeon LE AGP. Sucker wouldn't post. Swapped out the video card and set it up with an ISA video card (I think an older PCI card would have worked) I use when I REALLY get pizzed. Boot/POST no problem. Loaded windows as usual, swapped out the PCI turd for the Radeon and smooth sailing ever since.

One time I installed a board in a case and there was an extra stand off that grounded out the board, but in that case nothing would work, no fans, no lights, nothing. But that is something you should check, too.

I know this is pretty basic but make sure the switch on the back of your power supply is switched to 115, this could cause you not to have any video.

That's always a good place to start, but if that switch was in the wrong position nothing else would work, either.

a)try pci vid card to rule out agp slot as well as bad video card
b)make sure hard drive set to master and not cable select
c)remove everything except the ram, cpu and vid card and boot
d)try taking the motherboard completely out of the case (on something anti static) to assure it is not grounded
e)replace the processor with another known good one that will work and boot in another machine
f)try your processor in another board to assure that it is not bad


After you have ruled out all this it either will still not post (bad board), or you will be ok.

Make sure that when you install the AGP card, that it "SNAPS" in, you might have to push hard. Try this. Ape Out.

You might *think* the board is properly seated when it isn't. Take it out of the case, set it on a SAFE surface and try booting with only the essentials again.

While doing that, try swapping out the RAM with some that's known to work
